Okay....here is the deal.....some of you have certainly seen this image before...its not mine....however it was VERY helpful during my recent upgrade. After I did my install of my speakers a few weeks ago I looked and realized that the colors of the wires in this pinout were DIFFERENT than the colors of the speaker wires in my doors....I made a list of the wire colors and which terminal they were connected to on the speakers so that when I did my amp install and spliced into the harness that I would be sure to have everything hooked up exactly correct.....well.....I was actually surprised to find that the color of the wires in the rear doors were the same from left to right...very odd....anyway....so I went and did a little investigative work this morning....I did a continuity check from the plug to each of the rear door speakers and the pattern was quite evident.....here is the pinout I used during the install.

althought this image states its as viewed from the FACE of the connector....I found its actually of the side of the connector that the wires go INTO. that may be technically correct...but I personally would have thought that the side with the holes in it was the face...ANYWAY.... the ODD numbered speaker wires are the NEGITIVE wires going to the speakers...and the EVEN are the POSITIVE wires.

other than finding that three out of four of the doors had differnt color wires in them that appeared in the dash...the layout of this pin out is 100% correct.

That makes total sense, but we've got a conflict in another thread on the rear speaker wires:

http://www.protegeclub.com/forum/sho...threadid=14701

"Passenger's Side:
Green/Orange = Right Rear (+)
Green = Right Rear (-) "

So, just to clarify: that conclusion in the other thread is incorrect, right? The Right Rear (+) is GREEN and the Right Rear (-) is GREEN/ORANGE.

I would say YES...as you MAY know....if you hook up the speaker backwards....it will STILL work....the only thing is...it will be out of phase with the others. YOU will notice where he noted which was which he put question marks...as he wasn't sure. but as I said...even if he hooked up the + to the - and vise versa...it would still work...just be out of phase.

I will tell you how I determined which was which.....I removed the door panels.... I removed the speaker but left it hooked up. I removed ONE wire at a time.....when I pulled the first wire I looked at the speaker to see which it was (+ or -) then hooked a wire to it and wrapped it to ensure it was isolated and not touching anything else, the wire was about 4 feet long and tossed it up into the front....I get in the front seat and take my meter and start checking the speaker pins for continuity....presto chango....I mark on my diagram which is which....continue the process till they are all done. SO, I KNOW that mine are right at least in MY car. I have seen it before where not ALL cars were the same...not even the colors of such NON-criticle things as speaker wires....like I noted in another thread....the actual speaker wires in my rear doors are the same colors from left to right....somewhere between the doors and the front of the car they change colors. STRANGE BUT TRUE.

Thanks for the clarification, Nuke. I plan on checking phase once I start testing the system. It's pretty easy to tell, as the bass response is much lower when the speakers are out of phase.

Those mysterious wire color changes are freakin' me out, man!

You guys are right on the right side rear speaker wires, going to edit the the post so that it is correct.... I only tapped into the drivers side to power my sub so I assumed it must have been the same on the other side. Did not try it out though. Seems like all p5's were made with this wire color change to the passenger side.
