Does anyone from MD know what to do about speeding tickets

I got my first speeding ticket in your fine state and I am thankful that my licence wasn't taken away cause it would have been down here in DE. I am not required to go to trafic court but I am wondering if I should go anyway. It's a big ticket 105 in a 65 on i495. I know it was stupid and I am luckey they didn't arrest me but aside from that please give me some helpful advise!!!!

wait... where the heck were you going this fast? Heck I can't remember the last time I was able to go over 75 on that road without weaving through traffic.

Honestly... if you were truely going that fast you deserve whatever is coming your way.

(i realize you don't want to hear that)

First, see if the points will transfer to DE. Next, go to court and hope they lower the fine. I've gotten out of a few of bad tickets, but not that bad. 92 in a 65 and got it reduced to 75 in a 65-from 5 points to 1! Of course my dumb *** got nabbed two weeks ago doing 74 in a 40 on a empty backroad. So much for my clean record...

MD is not too leanient(sp) on speeding. I got a warning a few months back doing 68 in a 55. Warnings are rare in MD from what I hear. Being that you were 40mph over you might end up losing your license. I think in DE if you get caught doing either 25 or 30 over it is immediate suspension. The best thing to do is go to court and try to "fight" it. They will usually knock some off by asking if you plead guilty to a lesser speed. In your case dunno how much that'll really help.

And seriously slow the hell down. Not trying to preach but speeds like that are way unnecessary on public roads.

To my knowledge, yes. However when you get out by the 270 split it may turn to 65mph but then again that's essentially Virginia.

well, i know at least towards VA, up until 66 west exit from 495 it is still 55 and all around the MD side its 55. perhaps south of DC, that part of 495, beyond upper marlboro, might be 65 because im rarely there. but anything right after 270 spur is 55. cops/govt are too greedy to raise the speed limit to 65 on 270 and 495. the speed limit on 270 should be like 75.

Agreed.

You can get away with as much as 80 on 495 in certain areas but the key to that success is timing and lane usage. If you stick to your lane at say 10:00pm and lock it down on 75/80mph you won't get any problems.

Only women get warnings. Guys get tickets. My wife NEVER gets tickets, just warnings.

You have to go to court b/c over 20 mph over the speed limit is considered reckless. It is also $5 per each mile over the speed limit (with added penalties). You can't get out of this ticket nor is there any excuse you can use. You will most definitely want to go to court and sound sorry and that you learned your lesson.

1st thing you should do though is change your court appearance with hopes that the officer will not show up giving you a slightly stronger case.

Next you will want to offer to take a online driver education course to reduce the number of points taken off your license and reported to the insurance company.

I'm currently fighting a ticket for 21 over the speed limit by a hick cop (i was passing some idiot in a pickup on a 2 lane road and he floored it while i tried to pass). The cop didn't give a crap as I was only speeding that fast to get around him (another car behind started to accelerate to pass too!) and back into the proper lane.

however 105 in a 65 is going WAAAAYYY too fast (especially on 495 which is an urban interstate)

good luck
