My p5 is just over 8300 KM and i noticed some light brown coloring on my rotors. Not on the edge, but more in the middle and the service guy told me it's corosion and it's normal. IS IT? Also is there anything i can use to clean it without affecting the braking ability? Also I notice my brake starts squeeking when i start slowing down. I was told they don't actually take apart your brakes and clean the like Honda services do. At 24000 Km all they do is rotate tires and other stuff but not clean out the brakes... so how do i get rid of that squeeky stuff?

 

Yes, rust is normal. Clean it will steel wool. It's the hub, correct. Don't use steel wool on the braking surface.

 

I forgot, if it's the braking surface, just use them a few times and it'll fix itself.

 

Use what a few times and what will clean itself? Use steel wool on the rotors to get rid of the brown coloration? Should i use one of those air can sprays and try to air it out? Cuz when i brake gently it squeeks when i come to a stop and none of my friends P5's do that.

 

If the rust is on your rotors where the brakes touch - don't worry about it - it happens to me anytime i wash my car... Like Panther says, when you use your brakes the next few times the pads will scrape them off..

If the rust isn't on the brake material part of your rotors steel wool will work like a charm!

The squealing doesn't have anything to with the rust.. Mine does it too when brake really lightly.. It's normal - metal scraping metal = squealing. I find when i brake a little harder it doesn't squeal as much or at all.

My escort used to do it too. It's annoying as hell, but normal.

 

Hrmm okay.. i guess i just have to accept the fact that it's normal. Perhaps i should buy a power hose and spray all the stuff in it out. Isn't there some sort of housing so outside stuff cant get into the area between the brake and rotor?

Don't think you'd want to cover your brakes.. No way for heat to escape and brake dust would collect and make a mess...

Well i'll go home later and use the air duster for my computer and use it to clean out the dust in the brakes. Hope that helps.

 

don't try to clean the rust off. you'll regret it.
about 2 months ago, i cleaned all the rust off using steel wool and a metal polish. it just removed whatever minimal surface protection there was, and now the rust is way worse than it ever was. the rotors used to look crappy, now they it look REAL CRAPPY!!!!!!!!
i'm not investing in my p5 til i get the slow speed bunny hop fixed. once i do, i'm investing in some new rotors with the cadmium?/no rust finish.
