What have you done to your 3rd Gen today?

I know I'm a :newbie: but I know a few things...

Post your daily 3rd gen activities here! Whether it be taking her for a cruise, installing some fun new mods, smashing it into a concrete barrier.. anything goes.

I know I'm not the only one who is always doing stuff with and to their 3rd gen Protege.

Just today, I rewired my auxiliary gauges (boost, oil pressure, egt) so that they light up amber instead of the dim red they were lighting up. The gauges are actually visible in daylight now, woohoo!

Jackelope May-10th-2007 11:41 AM

I'm putting my side business decal on the back window today, and possibly sealing up my new taillights to put on. - and and cleaning the dash... "wash me" written on it is bothering me now

eggynatey May-10th-2007 11:42 AM

I went surfing and spilled some tortilla chips between the seats. w00t! :)

_Kansei_ May-10th-2007 12:00 PM

eating in the car?! *gassssp*

kargoboy May-10th-2007 12:06 PM

I had to get my new summer tires re-balanced this morning because some moron
didn't know how to use the machine, I guess...

Bought a set of Sumitomos from Tire Rack and I'm gonna beat on them all summer and see how they hold up compared to my late, but beloved Yokohamas.

thecreativ1 May-10th-2007 12:11 PM

Just picked up my car from getting it's oil changed and tires rotated.

I past 55,000 miles last week.

:yelrotflm haha, yeah, now that the P5's our family car, I kinda gave up trying to keep it perfectly clean. I still wash, wax and take care of the Protege, but now it's the FD that gets the royal treatment...but only because I can't keep the P5 clean for more than a couple days.

KrayzieFox May-10th-2007 02:06 PM

Filled up on gas at a whoppin $3.03 a gallon. Came out to almost $40!!!

_Kansei_ May-10th-2007 02:36 PM

Damn wish it was that cheap here. I filled up last night at 3.67 a gallon :(

plus boost makes gasoline go bye-bye so it sucks.

Oh well.. if gas prices were too high I'd be putting more miles on my bike than my car.. until then, my bike is just for pleasure and fitness :P

Luzer May-10th-2007 02:51 PM

I watched my odometer turn over to 48,000 miles on the way to work this morning. At my current average fuel economy, that means I have burned over 1540 gallons of gas since it was new.

Liquid_Ag May-10th-2007 06:06 PM

i looked at it through the window

JoshP5 May-10th-2007 10:21 PM

Almost all the parts have arrived for an upcoming revision--RB springs, HP struts, MSP front upper strut mounts and rear trailing links, AWR side inserts, SLS front mount. But where to start a thread on it? :)

_Kansei_ May-10th-2007 10:27 PM

Why hello thar josh :)

I'd say in the general 3rd gen forum would work.. it's a mix of suspension and other stuff. Maybe make "Joshp5's Protege Build Thread" or somethin?

KrayzieFox May-10th-2007 10:30 PM

How about the How-To section? It needs a little contribution .. and those would be good things to add it with nice pictures.
https://www.mazda3club.com/how-tos-96/

_Kansei_ May-10th-2007 10:31 PM

Almost forgot about that! Yeah definitely at least take a lot of pictures, do a write-up if you'd like. Even if you just get pictures I can do the writeup from memory for most Protege things haha.

KrayzieFox May-10th-2007 10:32 PM

Way to go How-To moderator :smileysho

_Kansei_ May-10th-2007 10:33 PM

I worked on wiring and plumbing in my dual pump setup ... oh wait, wrong kind of 3rd gen :D

Mzdalvr May-11th-2007 09:11 PM

Tomorrow is TEIN SPRING installation day!

Shasta May-11th-2007 09:32 PM

Backed my car onto the ramps, removed the exhaust system only to find the OEM gasket I picked up for the main silencer onto the new secondary silencer won't work. Still on the ramp with no exhaust now.

Luzer May-12th-2007 12:33 AM

I did nothing with my 3rd gen today. I left my p5 in the driveway and drove my Camaro to work. The p5 was taking a well deserved rest.

First post. Getting started on my 3rd Gen. Took off both front fendors, grill, radiator, hood, bumper, passenger light housing. Started taking a rubber mallet/block of wood to the passenger fendor seeing if it can be bent out. If not, ebay here I come for a replacement. Same foor hood. Started sanding the rest of the car as well. Off with the gold.champagne paint job!!

Fairly. Hey that's something I can write a how-to for.. :) just left myself a reminder. I should have it up tonight, I gotta go into the garage to change my front sway bar bushings anyway.

Very much so. You just have to shave off a little bit of the M6 wiper to make it hook up right. Total cost is $30 or so from www.onlinemazdaparts.com

Part numbers needed:
Blade- G21B67330 MSRP-17.50 Website-14.00
Arm- GM9E67421 MSRP-23.00 Website-18.40
Cover- GM9E67395 MSRP-1.25 Website-1.00

Make sure to get all three from them right away, cuz the blade is impossible to find anywhere else. It's a special Mazda product so you'll have to get them from Mazda every time if you make the switch.

Jackelope May-12th-2007 06:19 PM

i took it autox racing...

KrayzieFox May-12th-2007 06:28 PM

I took some before pictures. My comp is still in between moves. So its up in TN.
But I figured for my own sake, I'd take pics along the way. Been asking folks
around here for bits of info on what to do with the car and such.

Plans :

Bend/Hammer Out dents. If not possible, gonna replace Hood/Passenger Fender

Replace Alternator / Radiator.

Paint car : I Know a few folks, one of which has a real nice gun. I've got a
compresor and an empty garage and too much free time. Sanding/Gel-ing the
current paint off while im taking pieces off. Going to repaint a nice black.

Spruce up the insides. CAI, Maybe mess with the exhaust some. Give her a little
extra kick. But thats a bit in the future.

_Kansei_ May-12th-2007 07:05 PM

I didn't get to run my normal number (323) today, they did the numbering to group the novices into 5 groups.. a 4wd group, a rwd group, a low power fwd group, a massive sedan (grand prix gtp) group, and a "very high power" fwd group (yay they put me in that group, I guess the HKS SSQV throughout the last event let the cat out of the bag). Last event (first of the season, two weekends ago), the first instructor that went in my car.. and I quote "oh jesus!" when the turbo kicked in :P
