What do you pay to insure it?

I'm 23 and live in North Dakota. State Farm was going to charge me $180/month for full coverage ($500 deductable.) I switched to NoDak Mutual, and I'm down to $100/month. That still seems high to me, since I live in one of the states that has the lowest auto insurance premiums. Oh, and they won't cover my windshield replacement because it doesn't meet the deductable. I hate this state!

Well, I've just moved here (New York) from the UK (my wife's American) And when I first got quotes I almost fell off my chair with shock. Jeez, the insurance companies really know how to screw you... some were quoting like $3000 for 6 months? WTF?? (2003 P5, totally stock)
I'm 33 and I've had a UK license for 16 years, and it would cost me about the equivalent of $500 a year back there for full insurance. Apparently (my missus says), I'm an "assigned risk" for some reason.
I think the problem over here is that
a) NY is a "no-blame" state - if some myopic old giffer in a 4*4 sideswipes you, you claim for it, but it's still a big black mark against you. That's ridiculous!
b)Everything seems so litigious. Everybody seems to be suing everybody else for anything they can think of.
c)Fraud is a huge problem.
d)Blatant greed from the insurance companies.
e)Driving standards in general are a joke. I literally fear for my life when driving anywhere near Manhattan. The number of people I see swerving over the roads, mobile in hand, stereo on full blast, totally oblivious to anybody, is crazy!
Do people not realise that they are driving what is basically a 4000lb weapon?
Anyway, don't mean this to turn into a rant and there is a happy (ish) ending. We were quoted $900 from State Farm for 6 months, which seemed (almost) reasonable. Decided to get a quote from Gecko (or whatever it is), and indeed it was cheaper (just like the advert says!) and are down to $600 for 6 months, with full coverage, $500 deductible on everything.
I believe NY has the second highest insurance rates (after LA)

Falsedawn....Welcome to the U.S.A., and to New York....
Prices for these things are much cheaper down south as it is NOT a No-fault state.
You might check "Progressive Insurance" just to make sure, but I don't even know they sell in New York

Cheers! Been here almost a month so far - haven't got the car yet - hopefully collecting it on Saturday. Then there'll be the pleasure of the DMV, dipping their hands in my pockets for 10% tax or something stupid.
At the moment we are having to borrow the in-law's "granny mobile" as I call it - a mustang that's about 30 years old - I clench my teeth and pray whenever my missus brakes or takes corners in it! :-)
We tried Progressive. Their lowest quote was about the same as State Farm (around $860 I think).

I bought my 2003 ES New last year and I was 20 yrs old and I ended up paying $6000/yr. Note that that is in Canadian and I had no tickets or accidents. When I turned 21 that dropped to $3G's and now to $2G's. Yeah, sucks to be a young driver in Alberta

I pay less than $100 a month for my 2001 2.0L Protege AND an '04 V70 Turbo Volvo for both myself and my wife, but we're old farts...I'm 44 with no speediing tx or other infractions...wife is 40 with the same. Our insurance is also with Progressive and we have BETTER than typical full coverage (also some of our deductibles are $250).

I have been paying $103 USD a month w/that bad wreck I had. I am 21 turning 22 this month and all of my tickets have been dropped, other than that wreck and a recent speeding ticket (stupid cop sitting on the bottom of the hill who clocked me goin 42 in a 25....bastard) anyways yeah i was paying $80 w/a good driver discount and good student. but that is blown to hell but it isn't that bad....Oh yeah i am paying for full coverage w/a $500 deductable.

Excellent rates, sLoPr02k....what insurer? Probably about the same as my rates as mine is about $90 a month and that's for my '01 Protege and our '04 Volvo.
Notice you live in NC...I live in TN...living the south has a lot to do with our rates!
