Vibrating radiator after Motor Mount inserts

So I recently put in RR Racing front and rear motor mount inserts. LOVE them. Except that rattle coming from the radiator shaking within it's mounts. Any ideas on how to keep that bitch steady?

Jackelope May-23rd-2007 07:31 AM

Where does it rattle? i thought all the radiator mounts had rubber around 'em

aMaff May-23rd-2007 08:01 AM

Yeah, me too. It's just shaking like crazy. I'll have to take a look @ it, but it looks like the only thing that's rattling enough to make that noise :(

Roddimus Prime May-23rd-2007 08:02 AM

yeah, I've never heard of radiator rattling. Maybe you could just fill the rad mounts with a soft epoxy.

me either...I should talk to the 'tech' ;) who installed them.

Jackelope May-23rd-2007 10:07 AM

demand it be covered under warranty.

Da P-Funk! May-23rd-2007 10:59 AM

Mine did too. I stuff foam until they stopped - i like the fill with with RTV idea!

aMaff May-23rd-2007 03:17 PM

warranty? What's that? lol

Where did you stuff the foam???

Da P-Funk! May-24th-2007 06:20 AM

The foam is ghetto stashed between the radiator and the support. Just kinda' wedged in there.

lol nice. I need to get my jack / stands back from a buddy. It looks like it's pivoting on the bottom mount / mounts, but I don't know why it would shake like that. I'll figure it out once I can get under it...

I have the AWR mounts and my rad shakes too. I've been meaning to do something about it, I'm just lazy...

So, I think I figured out the mystery. Overtightening. The friend that did mine is a tech at a dealership, and I'm pretty sure he used and air impact on 'em. I had to fight like crazy to get the front one loose, but once I did, and retightened it w/ a ratchet by hand, and took it for a drive, at idle, it was WAY smoother. I couldn't get to the rear one, so I may get it back to him to loosen and 'hand' tighten that one as well on a lift.

I did mine with hand tools and IIRC, I torqued them down to stock specs, so I dunno, maybe that was the case for you, but not me. Although I'm loving that warm weather is back, it makes them a little softer and makes the shaking much less severe.

Now that they have settled - i hate them (vibe-wise) less. Still loving that tight hook-up tho'...

same here. I guess it takes 'em a while to break in. That radiator rattle's kind of annoying tho. I'll probably take a close look @ exactly what it's doing at some point and see what can be done about that.
