Vibrating radiator after Motor Mount inserts
So I recently put in RR Racing front and rear motor mount inserts. LOVE them. Except that rattle coming from the radiator shaking within it's mounts. Any ideas on how to keep that bitch steady?
Where does it rattle? i thought all the radiator mounts had rubber around 'em
Yeah, me too. It's just shaking like crazy. I'll have to take a look @ it, but it looks like the only thing that's rattling enough to make that noise :(
yeah, I've never heard of radiator rattling. Maybe you could just fill the rad mounts with a soft epoxy.
me either...I should talk to the 'tech' ;) who installed them.
demand it be covered under warranty.
Mine did too. I stuff foam until they stopped - i like the fill with with RTV idea!
warranty? What's that? lol
Where did you stuff the foam??? |
The foam is ghetto stashed between the radiator and the support. Just kinda' wedged in there.
lol nice. I need to get my jack / stands back from a buddy. It looks like it's pivoting on the bottom mount / mounts, but I don't know why it would shake like that. I'll figure it out once I can get under it...
I have the AWR mounts and my rad shakes too. I've been meaning to do something about it, I'm just lazy...
So, I think I figured out the mystery. Overtightening. The friend that did mine is a tech at a dealership, and I'm pretty sure he used and air impact on 'em. I had to fight like crazy to get the front one loose, but once I did, and retightened it w/ a ratchet by hand, and took it for a drive, at idle, it was WAY smoother. I couldn't get to the rear one, so I may get it back to him to loosen and 'hand' tighten that one as well on a lift.
I did mine with hand tools and IIRC, I torqued them down to stock specs, so I dunno, maybe that was the case for you, but not me. Although I'm loving that warm weather is back, it makes them a little softer and makes the shaking much less severe.
Now that they have settled - i hate them (vibe-wise) less. Still loving that tight hook-up tho'...

^^ by radiator rattle you just mean in the general area of the front grilles and such, right?
I know my car does it too, but my upper grille isn't clipped to the bumper properly. Make sure yours is.. there's 2 or maybe 3 posts that stick up out of the bumper cover that latch into the bottom of the upper grille. I can't get mine to clip in by just pushing down on it (pesky new grille isn't all broken in like my old ones were) so the rattle stays until I have time to pull the bumper cover. |
huh...good call. 1 of the mounting points on my upper grill's busted (has been since I bought it). I'll have to take a look at that. I just remember seeinng the radiator shaking around and making a bunch of noise.
yeah, the radiator can shake all it wants, it's mounted on rubber bushings. unless the rubber was dried/cracked/missing it probably wouldn't be causing much of any noise. the grille on the other hand.. hard plastic on hard plastic. I'm thinkin about putting some sort of gaskety material between the upper grille and the bumper when I take the bumper off to fix the rattle just in case.
my custom license plate bracket vibrates where it touches the bottom grille. tis super fucking annoying
I'd pull the lower grille out and dremel the crap out of that little area.. just enough that it doesn't touch your bracket
So I played around with it some this morning (EDIT: No...not that...). I'm pretty sure that it is the upper grill. I wonder if I can get a stock 1 FS somewhere. Anyone? ;)

You think yours is broken?
