And look at the MAM Sleeper turbo kit. Or buy the turbo set up from a wrecked P5 (ck FS section).

If you are doing the MSP route -= find a wrecked car and parts pick it (take the tranny. eh? You CAN operate a stick shift, yes? Only 16yr old girls REQUIRE an auto...;) ) and sell the carcass.

TheDirtyGoatee October-11th-2007 11:32 AM

Dude, I love that quote, "Only 16 yr old girls require an auto..." can I use that?! Classic!

You guys keep gettin it wrong.

HP isn't what kills automatic transmissions. It's torque. You could make 500whp on an automatic protege safely as long as the torque is kept to around 170wtq or so.

lastly, MAM is no more...as I predicted many moons ago. HiBoost or OEM MSP setup is the only way to fly.

KrayzieFox October-12th-2007 09:50 AM

So how do you go about keeping your torque down while increasing HP? That just doesn't make sense to me.

You can't, really. Matty just likes to be precise.

KrayzieFox October-12th-2007 01:22 PM

As I thought. So let's look at it this way.

A = higher HP
B = higher torque
C = dead auto tranny

If A leads to B, and B leads to C, then why the hell can't we just presume that A leads to C as well? I find that to be just as accurate if the relationship between HP & torque is linear as I thought..

+1.. keeping torque down but raising HP would require lots of custom work on this engine... i.e. it would cost WAY more than just getting a manual transmission :P.

I assume a near 1:1 torque:hp ratio when talking about these cars.. since everyone just has bolt-ons it works well enough.

I'd love to be able to find mods that can affect torque, or at least low end power. Proteges get killed in the low end powerband/from a dig.

KrayzieFox October-12th-2007 03:55 PM

Yea we do. Idle to 3500 RPM is just garbage in our cars.

compared to what? A diesel truck? We've actually got a pretty torquey power band, with a lot of it available early on.

yeah I dunno what he's smoking. Proteges aren't bad down low, I've driven much, much worse

*sigh* I can't access photobucket from work. I'll post my usual dyno comparison when I get down to Macon later tonight.

You know what us Canadians are smoking, you visit us enough :D

Maybe me and fox are just complaining because of our autotragics.
