a SHOCKING problem for Protege5.....
 

Nearly every time that I get out of my Protege5 and touch my driver door in order to "close it", I get a DAMN SHOCK!.....It's getting on my nerves...

What can be done for this "problem"

Do this...
When you get out, grab your key...the key with the rubber top. Hold onto the rubber.

Now that you're out of the car, touch your key to the rubber weatherstipping at the top of the inside of the door.

You will hear a *ZAP*, but won't get shocked.

Close door as normal.

Voila! No shock.

or you could just grab the top part of your door as you get out and don't let go untill yuor are completely out of the car with both feet on the ground. its worked for me so far. we had this discussion before.

This is what I do too and it works..

The only problem with that is that you can't grab stuff from inside your car at the same time. I know that sometimes, I open the door, grab my stuff, and get out.

I've heard a million different solutions for this problem, but that is absolutely the best!!!

hehe knowing my luck she would get out unshocked, I would reach for the door and shock the piss out of me :D

I kind of remember this from way, way back.....something to the effect of hanging a rubber strip from your chassis to the pavement, as to "ground" the car.

Has anybody heard of this ?

As to the "key method", at times I have my hands fulls and it's rather difficult to handle, thanks anyway, Ill try it.

My friend put one of those rubber strips on his '96 camry....didn't help worth a damn. I know of a few other people that have put them on and it reduced the shocks, but didn't eliminate them.

Those things don't work. What you should do is to work on
your 'getting-out-of-the-car' technique.

There's a way of preventing from getting static shocks when you get
out of the car. Here is goes...

1. Open the door and remain seated
2. use one of your hands (whichever is convenient) to hold/touch/keep
in contact the body of the car or any metal part of the door. (don't
worry, you won't get shocked)
3. Get out of the car, but keep holding/touching the car until your
a$$ has completely left the seat.
4. Do whatever you want after that... you won't get shocked
5. Practice steps 1-3 until you can get out in one swift movement
without looking awkward or uncomfortable. experiment with left or
right hands.
6. Print several copies out to hand out in your car so that your
guest can be shock free

It's worth doing it if you get shocks that could jump start the
engine.

And if you dont want to go through all these physical antics, just get a can of Static Gaurd that people use to keep their pant legs/skirt from clinging. Spray a mist over the seats, the floor mats, and the carpet under the mats. This may require repeat applications throughout the year. I've also heard that you can put a few dryer sheets between the floor mats and the carpet to "absorb" extra static electricity.

I now understand that the US Olympic commitee is now seriously condsidering adding a "NEW EVENT", this competition will be called "EXITING the MAZDA PROTEGE5", this appears to be very easy, but in order to compete one MUST EXIT the auto, WITHOUT RECIEVING a ELECTRICAL SHOCK. Please DO NOT attempt to do this yourself, as serious injuries can occour.
