Those things don't work. What you should do is to work on
your 'getting-out-of-the-car' technique. :)

There's a way of preventing from getting static shocks when you get
out of the car. Here is goes...

1. Open the door and remain seated
2. use one of your hands (whichever is convenient) to hold/touch/keep
in contact the body of the car or any metal part of the door. (don't
worry, you won't get shocked)
3. Get out of the car, but keep holding/touching the car until your
a$$ has completely left the seat.
4. Do whatever you want after that... you won't get shocked
5. Practice steps 1-3 until you can get out in one swift movement
without looking awkward or uncomfortable. :) experiment with left or
right hands.
6. Print several copies out to hand out in your car so that your
guest can be shock free :)

It's worth doing it if you get shocks that could jump start the
engine. :)

so those so called "anti-static antenna's" are just a big waste of $$$ then right?

and::( i change my oil every 4000km (2500miles) and my car even gets a $50 deluxe leather chamois ta wipe it down where i only get $20 cotton towels and it still zap me.... :tear: :crying:

Try grabbing the edge of the door as you are getting out of the car, and not loosing contact, get out. That may seem a little strange, but it works. At least it does for me. :bigthumb:

Didn't see zombiefreak's post until after i posted mine. His "method" is exactly what i was talking about.:dunce:

I started using the grab the edge of the door technique about 2 months ago. After a while, I also incorporated grounding the back of my calf against the door sill. I thought my pants would insulate too much, but it seemed to work fine for those times I forgot to grab a metal portion of the door.

that's what i've been doing lately as well! but I still got shocked this morning, and it's f'ing 75 degrees outside :eek:

... and I thought I was the only one being shocked... Gotta try those steps later!

i need to clairfy my prievous post. i didn't mean to sy that the tires create the static electricity. certain tires disapate static electricity better then others. it has to do with the silica content in the tires.

Instead of grabbing the door on the way out, instead I get out fully, then touch the metal end of my key to the rubber weatherstripping. Make sure you are holding onto the key with the black rubber one end...not sure what'll happen if you're holding onto an all metal key.

It's worked for me so far. Hope this helps!
