Ractive air intake
#18
I had to head to Mazda today (this dealership) because my engine light came on AGAIN (twice in a month).
Anyways, as I pulled in, this delivery van pulled in, and dropped off 6 of these air intakes. And he also dropped off 2 Eibach Pro-Kits for P5's...
I spoke with the guy there in the service dept (know him personally). I ended up picking up this air intake. Its a damb good price!
My question is this, will it easily fit a 1.8l?? He was a little worried it may not fix, as it was designed for the 2.0l. I've seen both engines, and they look almost identical.
My last question was the color of the rubber that holds the parts together. Its all Yellow, and thats the only color he could get it in. I WANT red. Can I paint these with some special paint?? I just want to make sure the paint doesn't kill the rubber with some acid or something??

I live in Florida and I can't take chances with all of those intakes mantioned above. Even the CAI that sucks hot air is not a 100% effective CAI design.
I hope someone will release real CAI, that will draw cold air from in front of the car. Iceman did it but for our not very popular P5 it would most likely not pay-off to design it (it would cost too much).
I still need some better intake than restrictive and noise canceling stock set-up. Our 2.0 is very noisy and quite rough sounding when pushed or cold so Mazda had to block it up so it is as quiet as possible.

He's also got some Atezzzals lights. (however you spell them, lol). Going for around $315. Presonally I hate them, I want the Carbon Fibre rear lights. But its nice to see he's getting more stuff for the Protege's. They are going to do-up 2 P5's there, and sell them. Should be pretty shweet!

I went by Lordco, to see if I can could possibly paint the rubber connectors, but they said it wouldn't be a good idea.
So I screwed the idea, and keep it yellow. I'm just installing the kit as I speak, but I had to take a break and wait, cuz they only give you 3 of the pipe clamps (to squeeze the rubber connectors on the pipe), and well.. there is a total of 3 rubber connectors, so you need 6 clamps. The guy at Mazda said they were one short, and gave me a extra one, but I still require 2 more, so I gotta wait till my dad gets back with 2 more to finish up.
I guess I could always leave it without them (the factory setup is just pushed together, but I'd rather have it properly connected. I'll let ya know how it goes (I've taken pics during the setup, as they give you no instructions).

I have a question for you.... I have been told by many people that the intake you have might cause some problems.. Your filter is to close to the engine so once the engine warms up you will be drawing in warm air not cold air... MHP sells a nice CAI.. I bought the black chrome with blue color... It extends thru the 4 inch hole on the right side of your engine compartment.... Mabey the info I was given was false but it sure makes a lot of sense to me...

Man that ractive looks tight. I had a Ractive on my Grand am and it growled like a demon. How does it sound on the P5? How wide is it. I had the Ractive heat shielded cone. With a 3" diam. thats too big I think for the P5.
