Protege Carputer Finished

Using much information from both this site and mp3car.com, I finished a carputer inside my '00 Protege.

Took me a few hours to play with today, but here are the first images of it set up and working.

This entire project cost less than $900.
It contains: DVD, GPS, Rear View Camera, MP3s instead of CDs, Touchscreen 7" LCD, OBD-2 Scanner, RF Keyboard and Mouse (when needed).

Pictures are here.

If you know how to stick wires under the back seat, or have suggestions, let me know!

Also, if you need help with something similar, just ask.

Hah! Dude, you should think about remounting that motherboard under some plexi or something, with a Cold Cath. Also, run the wires to the passengers side and put the CPU in the trunk. Why do you need a mouse with a touch screen? And why didnt you just get a Joyride? Easyer =) NJ tho

You just wired a home pc in your car with a 7" lcd monitor. You should've really gone to protegegarage.com and bought their monitor bezel and spoken with Ken. He made a carputer that was awesome. It was about the exact same price and everything was hidden INSIDE the dash.

Dude hid those wires, it looks like crap in the back. All you have to do is pry of the plastic on the bottom of the door openings and zip tie it in there along with behind the plastic on the B pillar then run them behind the rear seats into the trunk. That's how i hid my wires and it was a piece of cake.

hopefully it is NOT finished and this is just a preview... its a cool idea... but its gotta be done right and look nice. That camera is way to out in the open... do as suggested with the wires... fix the hole in your dash and at least get a smaller keyboard if you're going to have one at all... maybe even one of the ones with a built in mouse.. those are my suggestions... but then again, i haven't done it. if i did put a protegeputer in my car... i'd definately have it look clean...

That is the biggest waste of time I can think of. Good luck keeping the CPU cool.

It's a work in progress... I'll be hiding the wires shortly. The reason it's in the trunk is because it stays cooler. As for the camera, I'll probably scratch it. It's just a novelty item at the moment. Ditto for the stickers, etc. I've got much work planned for the car. I'm just glad I have it set up for music, videos, etc. I also don't live in the city, so I'm not that worried. :P

Mouse is officially gone as well, but the keyboard is hidden under the seat (it's not that big). I need it to type addresses for GPS purposes.

Give the guy some credit, he took what someone did professionaly, and tried it himself. That's how new products come about. One person charging ahead and trying new things. Besides, not everyone has lots of money to get it done professionaly.

Can't wait to see more

I'm all for originality. I just liek to see things done efficiently and professionally, not half assed (not saying his is half assed since he's not finished).
