My local Mazda dealership has repainted both rear quarter panel to fix the peeling pain problem. I have not suffered the paint chipping issues that others have, but it is definately worth the trip down to the dealer to present your case.

Damn trucks with no flaps to protect the cars behind it!! Luckily I live near downtown and don't take a freeway to work. My other car had knicks all over the hood from little tiny rocks bouncing up and down the highway. Hell, I used to live near a city golf course and dodged 2-3 golf balls back in the day!:eek: One I had bounce over my car, and the other I had to swurve to miss it. Damn fucktard golfers who can't drive a ball down the straight away!! :mad: Now they have huge nets to keep balls from flying all over the highway! :rolleyes: I still have an eye out for flying golf balls around courses along side of the road. Sounds funny, but 2-3 times I almost fell victim to Happy Gilmore! :p

This is getting frustrating.

The car has less that 2500 miles on it now, and there's more paint chiping. I rarely ever drive on the freeway with it, I only live 2 blocks to my work.

I just can't tell if it's chiping or paint flecking off. Now I'm getting pissed.

im starting to think they should offer "decent paintjob" as a dealer option :)

I, too, have paint problems. (My P5 is black.) I'm just over 2 years/35000 miles.

The paint just flies off the car anytime something touches it. I get a lot of chips and scratches on the plastic parts, but I also get a lot of chips on the metal.

I keep the car washed and waxed, and I drive on the freeway as little as possible (50 miles per week, plus two or three long trips per year). Nevertheless, if you count the places I have touched up, plus the chips and scratches that I haven't painted, there are probably 100 spots where I have had problems.

I was hoping to keep this car for something like 10 years, but at the rate I'm going, I'll just be driving an unpainted car around!

Is it even worth complaining to Mazda?

This would be interesting. If enough people complained to Mazda, what would they even do?

Well, that's just it. I got a quote from a body shop to repaint my '93 Protege, and they said it'd be a couple grand, because to do it properly, you'd have to take off everything that's not going to get painted, apply several layers of work (priming, sanding, paint, clearcoat, etc), and then put everything back on. And I don't think Mazda loves us that much.

in this day and age with motor companies trying to keep costs down and the advancement of computerized painting there is less and less paint getting on the cars... i talked to a body shop once who seemed pretty knowledgable and talked about painting and such.. the amount of paint from the factory is about half as thick as most window tint.. something like 3.5 -4 mil compared to the usual 6-8 mil window thickness.. so thats why the paint is easily chipped... and repaints are usually in the 12-13 mil range done by hand...
