I believe our MP3's take 4 quarts. As of now, I have gotten my oil changed twice. Both times I took it to the Mazda deaalership that I bought it from. I assume they use OEM filters and Castrol or Valvoline oil or something??

I would imagine that your dealer could easily help you out with this one, give them a call. You could also go to the web page and look up the capicities. Another option is to go down to the dealer and ask for a new owners manual, it is a new car so they should be able to help you out.

The Mazda filter has a check valve that prevents the oil in the head from draining backwards through the filter into the pan... Very few of the other filters have this...any if you're on warranty, it's best to stick with that (at least until the end of your power train warranty) for now.

I use the oem filter on all of my Mazdas, and have had no problems at all. They all run on synthetic oil too...Mobil 1.
On the RX-3 too? I didn't know they could run on synthetic.

Just out of curiosity, why do you guys run synthetic over regular oil? And why Mobil 1, why not Valvoline? Just wondering...

I'm coming up on my first oil change and I was thinking of putting in some X1R products and regular Valvoline.

Oh, I also forgot to ask, is it better to wait 'til 5000 miles for first oil change and then follow the 3000 mile interval or do the first at 3000, and follow the 3000 mile interval?

Thanks...

You said OEM filter has check-valve?

You said OEM filter has check-valve?

Not the one I got from DEALER for my car?!?!?

I know K&N has a check valve.
