oddity

Okay here is the deal. This is the first time this has happened (or the first time I have noticed it) but yesterday it was about 100 degrees here in california. I had my air conditioner on blowing at level 2. I got cold so I turned it off. So I’m driving a little ways and I notice this steam or mist shooting out of the vents (the fresh air was blowing in). I look outside and my car is not smoking and there is no smoke in the air. The stuff coming from the vents wasn’t smoke because there was no smell and it didn’t hang around in my car. I don’t really think it was mist either because there was no residual moisture on the vents. So I am completely stumped as to what happened. Any thoughts? I don’t know if I should freak out or wait to see if it happens again today. I have an 02 P5 about 35,000 miles.

Your ac was probably blowing so cold that the air flowing in started to condense, basically, you made fog. LOL keep it up, maybe itll snow.

by the way, im in phoenix az, 110 - 120 here, I've had that happen to me with some of my previous cars if it gets hot enough outside, although for some reason the ac on my pr5 doesn't really get that cold compared to my other cars.

Cool, the AC in my P5 has NEVER gotten cold enough to even cool me off before. The fog idea makes more sense-because with a mist there would have been condensation, no? oh and thanks for making me feel like a total jackass. Glad I could give you a laugh! I figured it was mist but I just wanted to check w/you all anyway. I had a VW bug for my 1st car and the dash caught on fire…so I’ve been traumatized!

Same thing happens to me every once in awhile. Never really thought too hard about it.

set your car on circulate. essentially you are blowing in hot air from the outside, of course it is not going to be as cool. Once you set to circulate and the ac is on...it should start cooling down the car.

VW fire huh? lol now you can say you've had a car that spouted fire and one now that spouts snow! How did it catch fire? You drop the cigarette lighter or did it just short?

It was night and I went to turn on the headlights. The switch was a button on the dash. When I pushed it, it popped back into the dash . then, as I was looking for the button (because only the parking lights came on) I saw flames start up and then all this smoke came rushing out. I hurried to the trunk and got my extinguisher and put it out. Then, I drove home with only my parking lights on.
