My Mp3-What to do?

Well, I have proudlly owned a 2001 Mazda Protege MP3 for about a year and 4 months now. The car is wonderful and looks like a rose. She is definitlly Golden!! Or yellow i should say. But i am not shure where to find my basic performance parts. Does any one know the cheap-ER basic parts to give my car a little more kick? Please help me! I would really like to make it faster than my buddys civic! YUCK!

protegegarage.com is where I'd start.

horsepowerfreaks.com has a lot of good stuff and Ben really takes care of me when I need something cheap and fast.

What are your plans for the car? Do you know what your end goal is? It's always best to start with an end product in mind.

Your best first mod would be the new 4-1 header from protege garage and a MIL eliminator. It removes the restrictive pre-cat and log manifold and replaces it with a long tube header. You'll get much better flow on the top end. Add to that a CAI from Ebay (lots of threads showing you which one works best) and you'll be set with both for under $250shipped.

Everyone talks about getting a MIL eliminator. I had a thought. Would you be able to install a header, followed by a high flow (larger) Cat, and rewire the O2 sensor to be longer so that you'd still be legal?

sure you could do that but there's nothing that says the high flow cat will still pass emissions. You may not throw a CEL but you may not pass a sniffer.

From the threads I read, as long as you keep the 2nd Cat and use the MIL eliminator, guys are still passing emissions.

Welcome to the forum. You are one of the lucky few to have found the yellow MP3--I think there were originally only 500 of them and 2000 of the blue.

(Mac, that is good to know--I need to find out if this has worked for any PA guys. I'd love to add the OBX header but I don't wanna screw with swapping it back to stock every time I get an inspection).
