MSP vs RX-7

Well I am trying to strike up a deal to get a MSP still, my dad is going up there tomorrow to see if we can work things out..

My plan was ALWAYS buy a new car now, when it's paid off get an old RX-7 and restore it and make it totally race ready..

Now my father is like, keep your P5 and we can get an RX-7 and start to fix it up, father and son. (With me paying for everything, don't get too excited.)

I know SURE AS HELL if I have a working RX-7 I am EVER driving my P5 again.

I can trade in my P5 for a MSP w/ payments at $350-$370 and just have the MSP till I graduate school and can afford to have an RX-7 as a weekend car.. OR I can get and RX-7 and have a P5.. I know I'll only drive one... ARGH WHY DID HE HAVE TO DO THIS TO ME?!?!

Well depends how much you like to race on weekends really.

I saw get the MSP if you just go occasionally to compete. Its cheaper in the long run to maintain one car then it is two. I think RX-7 insurance for someone young can be quite expensive.

Apex seals? We don't need no stinkin apex seals!

The insurance on either an RX-7 or MSP is going to be killer if you are under 25. I personally would just get something reliable until you get out of school (ie the P5 you have), and then you can drop 30k on a new RX-7 replacement when you graduate. I don't know about you guys, but I eventually just get pissed off at my project vehicles (truck below) and don't really want to work on them anymore. There are three or four things wrong with that damn thing, all easy to deal with, and I don't even want to touch it. Hopefully, my interest will kick in a little bit more when we get a house in the near future (doubtful frickin pain in the *** truck). So you might want to consider that and get a daily driver you can really enjoy, rather than a project that could languish in the garage. If you just really have to buy something that is, I know I get the urge sometimes myself.

Yeah here's the thing, if I can finance the MSP for a good deal (like say $30-40 more than I am paying now) I can pay it off completely when I am done with school so I have a good nice daily driver when my RX-7 doesn't feel like starting.

Which I can imagine will be often. I still love that car though.

You say that you want the rx-7 to be "totally race ready". I don't know if you've ever been in a real race car before, but they don't always have the best road manners.

So if you decide you want the rx-7, go for it. Just remember you'll really want something to drive on the street.

Like I said in the previous thread, keep the P5, get the RX if you want it though.

Oh yea, my 100% NON-race ready 323 is a pain enough to drive around... The ride is HARSH, and I still have everything inside it... Not cool!

I'm really debating whether I'll EVER buy a brand new car. Depreciation is such a bitch... I'd get a 1 year old 5-10k mile car for 30% less than buying new, and have just about the same-*** vehicle. But that's just me No car payment(s) period is where it's at!

Well, if you decide to get the RX-7 I think you should keep the P5 temporarily. Reason being:

As people have already mentioned, if you're really getting this car "race ready" then it's going to be out of commission often. Since it will be driven rarely, you can get partial insurance coverage on the RX-7 while you fix it up, protecting against vandalism and theft. Once it's ready to hit the road you can get full coverage and sell your P5 - or not, depending on how much of a daily driver the RX-7 would be.

But that's just what I would do.

hehe, the RX-7 would be real cool to keep as a project car

if u can get both a MSP and RX-7, then ure definately set, but get ready to be killed on insurance hehe

what u lookin into
an SA22C cuz u did say get an old one and restore it, or an FC or maybe FD

any RX-7 is cool, even tho i do prefer the later models FC+

If you're paying for the whole show how can your father nix the deal?
