KN filter problems
KN filter problems
Hey, i just replaced my old filter with a new KN filter. I noticed that my battery light and enging light is now on. I heard that i have to reprogram my car or sumthing at the dealership. But the dealership told me that any MODz on the car does not work w/ my warranty. Man i dont know wat to do. They said it'll cost me 78 bones for the check up. Forget that. anyone got ideas or a way to take them lights off? Thanks
that filter will NOT viod warranty. And if you persist in having a problem, they CANNOT CHARGE you unless you dont have a warranty. BUT... i dont think you would have to reprog your ecu... check to make sure... IF you untied the battery.. you put it back on just as tight and it was still clean contacts. As for your engine light.. maybe make sure you didnt disconnect anything. Either way.. they cannot charge you... your car is under warranty and there was a law past in 198X that says you can use any non oem filter and it will not viod manufacturers warranty.
Also try and put your old one back and see if you still get the lights.. if you do, bring it to the dealr as such and they cant prove any mods.

hi,there..
it really sounds weird for me..
1. I just put in the k&N drop-in...works fine...no engine check light...
2. the k&n filter box also mentioned that replace oem one with K&N WILL NOT void your warranty...becasue there's a law...
3. which dealer you bring your car in? I am here in southern CA..just curious..
4. check the plug of the sensor on the filter box...and also the connection of your battery...
keep us update

ok guys. I put the filter in. It seems to work fine. I hear the vaccum noise when my engine is turned off. i think errrthang is ok, however my friend left a wire hanging lose that seemed to be connected to the old filter. We checked out the wire before but it seems to have no importance. I havent had the chance to plug it back in..but does anyone know if it is neccessary or whats it purpose?
alright, the wire is reconnected. It solved 1 of my two problems. The battery light is no longer flashin, however the engine check still is. Everything looks fine and the filter installation looks perfect. Does anyone know why my engine light is still flashin? help please! its annoying. I dont wanna take it to the dealer, they wanna charge me 78 bones!

Also, have you reset the ECU? Your first post didn't mention anything about that. You might want to try it, remove the negative terminal, pump your brakes, or leave it for a few minutes, then reconnect it. Hope this helps.
cornbread,
once your computer gets a trouble signal to turn your CHECK ENGINE LIGHT on...it will stay on until its reset....
you can reset your computer and turn off the light by doing the following.....
open the hood, loosen and remove the NEGITIVE battery terminal, ensure its the NEGITIVE TERMINAL....its the one with the MINUS (-) sign next to it.....now get in your car and press on the brakes a few times....this discharges a few capacitors.....now just let the car set for about 5 to 10 minutes.....then hook the battery back up....and start your car up and allow it to idle for a few minutes.....the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT should now be off....that is as long as putting that wire back on was the ONLY problem...and the computer is not getting some other signal telling it to turn on.
Keep us informed if that fixed you up.

Remember to do the same thing when you perform engine mods and you shouldn't get the same problem.
