Question J.D. Power Survey for P5 owners?

Did anyone out there receive a J.D. Power survey in the mail?

A couple of weeks ago, I was notified by a postcard that I would shortly be receiving a survey and a 'gift' from J.D. Power. The other day, I thick envelope including a 4-page survey and a crisp one-dollar bill came to my house.

The survey is very comprehensive and questions everything, including exterior / interior / engine / comfort / and audio. It also asks questions related to your height/weight and driving habits.

I gladly filled out the information and was completely honest about my 'likes and dislikes' of my new P5.

I was wondering if anyone else was mailed the survey? If yes, did you find it easy to complete and did you like your 'gift'?

I think I had to give him perfects across the board for him to get a bonus. He lied and told me that he got my car from another dealer when infact it was the same one they had in the showroom. So I had to mark him down on that one.

Dont goof around if you get a JD Power survey. These things are what people look at when they buy a car (I know I did). As for the dealer survey, thats just so the dealer will get there "flags". The dealer I purchased my car from is Hollingsworth Mazda in Baton Rouge, LA. They have won the Presidents Award from Mazda for the pass 3 years. Mazda also gives out other awards to the dealer. The dealer has the flags hanging around the dealership.

The very last thing that my salesman did before I left with my P5 was sit down with me and explain the survey. He got me to fill out a "dummy" survey, then he took it to his manager. His manager came back and asked me why I didnt put the highest mark on certain questions. I couldnt believe he was doing this. This "dummy" survey was the exact survey that Mazda USA sends you in the mail. The dealership just wanted to see what I would put down, and they hoped that they could change my mind about certain answers I put down. Needless to say, I didnt listen to them, and when I recieved the Mazda survey in the mail, I answered truthfully.

Anyone else have similar experience?

No its like a bonus Im sure. It has to do with this web site. My sales guy was bitchin and moaning cause some other guy before me marked him down on stuff. I was telling him that I hadn't got the survey yet. (next day I did get it). Anyway some woman his co-worker told me it didn't matter becaue he was the top guy and he make a quarter mil last year through all the different rewards he got.

I wish JD Power would give me a dollar. I could wipe my *** with that gift.

Mnkyboy -

I was also coerced to complete a 'perfect' dealer survey. They even used the offer of free oil changes and tune-ups to lure you in their devious game of getting perfect scores for the dealership.

Excellent customer surveys = big bucks for the dealership

I think it's all pretty shady!

The dealership I bought mine from did the same sort of things.(Courtesy Tampa/Brandon). My sales lady must of called me 5 or 6 times before I even got my survey to make sure I brought it in to the dealership so I could go over it with her. Always offering me a full tank of gas . Thats way I can't stand car salespeople, always too pushy. When I did get it it said right on it "do not bring to dealership" If you do it there then you just feal pressured to give better marks and they know it.

ALL dealers in the US and I assume Canada too are GRADED this way...and yes it means big bucks to the dealers...it works into all sorts of stuff for them...including how many of a specific vehicle they will get....

I too was told about the survey....and what it ment to them. I must say that I got lfietime oil changes for both my P-5 but not as part of filling out the survey...I think they knew they were pretty safe in giving me this though..as It would eat up the better part of my day off to drive that far to get the oil change done and I probably won't.....however.....as I posted somewhere else on the board....I WOULD suggest and encourage anyone to go to the dealer I got my P'5's from...and I would steer them to the sales lady I delt with....she was great....never lied....if I ask a question she didn't know she told me so and got up right then and there and found someone that did and got me the answer....I ask some technical stuff that I really didn't expect her, or any salesman to know....just wanted to see if they would try to blow smoke up my butt or not.....all in all I ended up with a better deal than I expected. And when the three weeks had past and I hadn't gotten the call from the dealer yet that my plates were in....I called to talk to her and she wasn't in her office....the dealer took my number and said that she would get back to me....they paged her.....it was her day off....she called me from WALMART on her personal cellphone......got the reason I called.....called the dealer.....got the situation taken care of....called me back.....and presto chango....they found my plates were there and FORGOT to call since they thought I had already picked them up...seeing as how I was there a few days earlier getting them for my other car.....They got their good marks from me, if for no other reason the service I recieved from their sales department. As I think you can tell....I am a very satisfied Mazda customer.

My wife and I got our surveys at the same time (she got a Miata when I got my P5) and we really liked our salesman. While reading the survey letter, we noticed that we each had a different guy marked as our salesman, and neither of the listed was the guy we bought the car from. So we gave them mediocre marks, and in the note section we said we were particularly happy with the dealership, but that the Salesguy was absolutely the best, and we carefully spelled out the correct salesperson in big block capital letters.
