I'm so EXCITED!!!!!

I am getting my Protege 5 on Saturday and I'm so excited. If it is as good as everyone on the board praised it to be, I'll never wanna leave my car.

Congrats! I've had mine all of 4 days and just hit 400 miles. I've found myself looking for excuses to drive several times!

BTW, it is as good as everyone says it is I thought my MX-6 handled well....Protege5 beats it hands down.

Which color/ options are you getting?

Congratulations on your new cars guys....I've found myself driving half a night just to get milk......within 6 months i went from 33000km to 54000km.....and I dont work that far from home!
I love my protege ,and you will love yours too!

but honestly,do you really enjoy driving automatic???
It's the only thing I'm thinking about when I see new members talking about their automatic tranny....nothing compares to the fun and feeling a manual tranny !

just my opinion, since I dont give a crap about driving in traffic with a stickshift.

Amen brother, I just used to get bored driving an auto... Mind you the Protege is a lot more fun than my previous cars. Still nothing beat the ol' 5 shtick..

Hey, I've had my for 5 days now and I can't stop driving my P5 everywhere. I see her sitting in the driveway and am looking at my key in my hand, I say to her "alright we are leaving", I have no willpower over that car.
I have 415miles on my now.

Congrats on the new car! I know you must just be anxious right now for Saturday to come. At least I was...the dealer had to get my car from a dealer a few hundered miles away so I had to wait two days for it to be retrieved/prepped. It will all be worth it soon enough

Congrats!

You will like your car, it handles great , and the power is comfrtably there (a nice flat powerband is un-usual in a 4-cyl ). I have a '99 Protege LX-t (trunk version) and I am very impressed...I knew I would...Mazda has a good quality reputation. WOW, only 3-yrs and I have 90,000 fun riddled kms on the clock...and I only drive 5 minutes to work! (Read the sig )

Congrats,

Just got my P5 3 weeks ago and I'm lovin' it (first new car ever).

Although, I have to agree with some of the others, get the 5-speed.

The P5 was my first manual transmission car and believe me, it makes it that much more fun to drive. Your local driving school will likely offer lessons in driving manual - and you will still save some money. Young Drivers of Canada charges about 50$ CDN per hour (about) and they recommend 5 hours, you probably only need 2-3.

If you're buying a commuter or a luxury sedan - get the automatic. But the P5 is definitely a fun car to drive and a manual transmission will make the experience so much richer. Don't be afraid to learn, it's really not that hard!

Nowhere did the original poster say that he COULDN'T drive stick. For many people the descision to own an automatic has nothing to do with their ability to drive a stick. In my case (an a lot of others) I bought an automatic (my first non-manual car in 13 years) because my wife doesn't drive a stick.

I'm sure this guy will enjoy his car just fine even with the handicap of the automatic transmission.
