I'm ready to make an offer on P5 - need help

Hi,

Fisrt, thanks to all contributors here. This forum is an excellent resource. I drove P5 for the second time in the past week and I really like the car. I'm ready to start talking price tomorrow and need some help.

I want to get Midnight Blue P5, 5 speed, with A/C as the only option.
Since the winter draws near, I'll need winter tires/wheels. Someone here said Mazda has a package of 15" steel wheels with Kumho winter tires for CDN$640+tax. Can anyone confirm this? I'd like to bargain for a good price on those, or should I get tires/wheels from somewhere else?

Also, should I go for the optional alarm system?

The MSRP on the car with above options is CDN$21,895 including freight & PDI. Would $21,000 be a reasonable target?

Thanks!

No. .. definiately bargain that price. I got A/C as my only option and i paid just over 20k CAD. Get them to take off the PDI/fRieght which is $1000, and then get them to add free tint and wheel locks and touch up paint.

And no, don't get the alarm, it's crap. Get an aftermarket one.

Thanks noodles.

Was your opening offer below 20k? What do you think about the winter tire/wheel package?

Definately aftermarket for the Alarm...from the reviews that everyone has given on the stock alarm, I would highly recommend it.

Also considering that it is near winter definately bargin.

Start with 200 USD above invoice. "Do not" I repeat "Do not bargain from a high price to a low price."

This is how you play the pricing game. If they will not go in any lower, ask for accessories to be thrown in for free.

That is how I played their game. Took me 15 minutes to bargain with them and 45 minutes to do all of the paperwork.

That price seems way too high. I paid 17, 450 USD for mine fully loaded! Moon-roof, chrome wheels, moon-roof deflector, 6 disk changer, cargo try, 5spd you name it! And I got 0% interest for 48 months.

On the alarm..aftermarket all the way..stock one is crap. Like SEA says, bargain hard for extra accessories...they will work with you..

Thanks for the replies.

ironman I'm dealing in Canadian dollars here, so $21,000 CAD is approx. US$13,600. (US$1 = CAD$1.55). I'll be going down to the dealer on Saturday.

Anything else I need to know?

Be Firm...Do not let them jerk you around...it should not take more then an 35-45 minutes to bargain.
