Welcome to Protege Club! I'm glad you're excited about your new MSP, but I'm sorry I don't know of the 'performance sites' that you are looking for...

Hello Cory, and Welcome to our happy little corner of the net, and to our Club. There are TWO BIG fridge'S in the corner with anything you can think of in them...help yourself...of course only take what you can LEGALLY have.

make yourself at home on one of the big fluffy couches, kick your shoes off, put your feet up on one of the tables, yes we are allowed to do that, mom don't care....and take it easy.

oh...btw....every once in a while a food fight breaks out...so you may not want to wear nice clothes here.

Welcome!!

if you will go over into the performance section for the engine and drive train.....and/or use the SEARCH button in the top right corner of the board you will find more information on all those things than you can shake a stick at.....then if you don't find what you are looking for specifically.....ask. :{D

for the love of god man.. do not ghetto modify a beautiful car like the mazdaspeed protege. do it right the first time. i'm not sure if there is any yet, but soon enough there will be plenty of aftermarket for the car. just give it a little time. congrats on the new car, and welcome to the board.

Good point. Regular N/A 99+ Proteges use a unique dual coil ignition system that isn't easily upgraded using conventional aftermarket ignitions, and AFAIK the MSP uses the same ignition (someone please correct me if I'm wrong).

Conventional CD ignition boxes like an MSD 6-series (6A, 6AL, etc.) require a clean ignition trigger signal from the ECU or distributor, but the Protege's ECU talks to the coils using computer gobbledygook that can't be understood by an aftermarket ignition box. I have NEVER seen a Protege owner successfully hook up an MSD to the stock ignition circuit, including the SCCA World Challenge racing teams! AFAIK the only way to upgrade your car's ignition is a complete stand-alone system like an Electramotive DIS, or an ECU upgrade as soon as someone releases a reasonably inexpensive upgrade that's not snake oil.

Other than that, good luck with your car! I hope there's still time to cancel the order for the MSD!

add coils?

Has anyone add two more coil packs and remove the sparkplugs wire altogether? This might be easily done, but I dought that it will help the performance any. Just thinking out loud.

Just a quick clarification...

I was talking to the sales manager I bought my car from today, and he said the MSP ONLY came in the orange color...

That is complete bunk. It is available in black or orange now. Either the guy does not know what he's talking about (somewhat likely) or he's lying to move what he's got in stock (more likely).

Funny story to illustrate my point... a few years back, my dad decided to buy a Nissan 200SX SE-R. He wanted one with no sunroof. I went to one dealer to help him shop, and not only do they not have any without sunroofs, the sales manager claims that they can't even get one because Nissan is only shipping 6 of them to Texas that year. "But we've got plenty WITH sunroofs, in almost every color!"

Next day, my dad goes to another dealer, and they have FOUR SE-R's without sunroofs. Two possible explanations: (1) Dealer "B" had almost every non-sunroof SE-R being sent to Texas that year, in stock, right then. (2) Dealer "A" was lying to move the cars they had in stock.

Which do you believe?

Welcome to the club. Oh and like Carguycw said. Hurry up and cancel it. I bought one before and got stuck when I took it to my mechanic to get it installed . Luckily my friend with a Civic was about to buy one and I sold him mines. That god for civic drivers
