I have the 1.6.

Mods: None.

(Yes, at times it is slow as hell!)

protetype January-28th-2002 10:35 PM

1.6L's of pure power. Did you say 'at times'? Must not be the same 1.6L I have, lol. Pictures and details of mods on my site.

Turbo January-29th-2002 02:38 AM

Now I wouldn't say my 1.6L is slow, but she is a little underdeveloped right now. All stock for now but that shall change soon as I have some time to put the wrench time in.

btw..ive only done a cheap cat back exhaust..and it put out 75hp at the wheels on the dyno..exterior mods include chrome tints and a "protegetech" banner.

I'm posting pics of my Performance Control module install under another thread. Check it out. The only other mods I've done is exhaust and audio. Let's keep working so we can beat those 2.0's

1.6 Liter here

CLAP CLAP!!!, right now i really can't find too much for my car, but i am lookin around for stuff!! i have a 2000 mazda protege lx 1.6 liter. all i have right now is a little flow master, clear corners, side markers, altezza tail lights, some rated r konig rims and low profile tires, and eibach springs, but i wish i can get more on the perfomance end. anyone got any suggestions on what i can do about that?:dunno:

protetype February-21st-2002 07:18 PM

Bosal cat-back exhaust, Injen CAI or custom intake, ngk wires, plugs. There's not too much out performance-wise for the 1.6. Soon enough though, rsmotorsports will have a lightweight flywheel and performance clutch. you should post some pictures of your ride. :]

tresdos3 February-21st-2002 07:27 PM

mazdaspeed cams are available for 1200 australian $$$$
also mazdaspeed chip, i'm meeting up with frosty666 on sunday (its fri today)..and ill take lots of piccies of his ride!!:)

originally posted on fastfours forums by frosty666

The key to power with these engines is the breathing. My car so far has, cams/chip,rampod,headwork including cleanup of all ports & chambers, fuel pressure regulator,
custom extractors, larger cat, 2inch straight through zorst.I still am a bit sus on the 91kw, I think the operator had it "ramped" up a bit.
I reckon it's about 80/85 kw's @ the wheels to be honest, but still much, much better than standard.hope this helps, cya.

p.s. keep clapping people!:blue:

Turbo February-21st-2002 10:23 PM

Well I got the ram air built, installed, and awaiting another air box from the factory so I can finish her off. The air flow sensor worked fine when I by passed the factory intake, but I plan on setting the ram air up to use a modified air box with ram air and factory intakes connected to it. I will post pics later on in the week when the air box get in.

biknman February-22nd-2002 06:37 AM

tresdos3 chip and cam?

Tresdos3,
You mentioned Mazdaspeed cams are available for 1200 Australian $$$$ also Mazdaspeed chip. Are those for the 1.6l engine in a generation 3 99-01 Mazda Protege/323? If so how the hell can I get you to hook me up? Dam that would be awesome if we could get a hold of that stuff for our cars. The only option for more power out of our 1.6er I can find is to juice it with Nitrous which you know can be good or bad. Or a custom turbo but you might as well get a 2.0l swap if you’re going to spend that kind of money. Um, I wonder if Rishie, Corksport, or anybody else would be interested in importing this stuff. Any U.S. 1.6er interested? Well any-who Tresdos3 if you could post the Mazdaspeed Part numbers for the cams and chip that would be awesome. Can't wait to see your pics of the install.
Thanks
Ausies rule!
P.S> ya think you could get one of them Shelia’s to wear her bathing suit and pose next to your pics of the install. You yanks know that over there down under that bathing suits are only the bottoms for men and women (Shelia’s). HAHA!! Thanks again.

cams and chip

biknman...trust me ..im as excited as you are on hearing the news about the cams and the chip.:)..frosty666 had his car dynoed and got 91kw atw for these and other bolt on mods..eg exhaust, extractors...(this compares favourably to the 55.5kw atw i got with a cat back exhaust)...now, i will be meeting frosty666 on sunday as we are having a big cruise (over 60 cars) for our club....as far as i know he got the cams as his brother/cousin works for mazdaspeed in japan and he was able to obtain a mazdaspeed brochure..anyways the cams are listed as "mild street"...and frosty has personally mailed me with a price of about 1200 aus $$...but stay tuned to this thread as i will be taking piccies of his ride and getting all the downlow...

but as i said ...with 91kw atw..with a package that only weighs 1032kg...watch out 2ltrs!!:)

in addition it was frosty's car which was used as a guinea pig for uniflow in order to build their rampods...which are now available for 175 aus$$$

ricerocket February-23rd-2002 12:52 AM

1.6....

Rampod Pricing

If the rampod for the 1.6L is $175 AUS how much would it be in U.S. dollars? If it's around $200, I want one! Also, does anyone have a picture of it installed or right out of the box?

also... how can we get this? where from, and i'd also like to know the u.s. ammount. :]

tresdos3 February-24th-2002 04:55 AM

ill get piccies for you guys soon...

1 u.s $ = .50cents Aus $$

thus you can get the rampod for 90u.s $$....shipping would probably be about 50.us.$$ im guessing.(does anyone know the cost of shipping door to door?).it is not a big intake....basically it uses the first set of piping form the throttle body to the maf...then the rampod piping is about 20-25cm...which comtains the maf..and then a huge ass rampod filter..it looks very nice!

biknman...mazdaspeed cams and chip to go with them cost kevin (frosty666) about 1600$$aus..about a year ago...apparantly they have been available since early 2000...ill get you the part number soon.

protetype February-24th-2002 01:25 PM

hmmm, $140 shipped from over there eh? that doesn't sound *too* bad considering where it's coming from. If at all possible, i'd like to get this thing before may (the shows start!) so hook it up tresdos! :] lets get our 1.6's rollin (just a little faster).

Former 1.6'er!

Hey folks!

I haven't a 1.6 Pro, but I kind of have a soft spot for 'ol engines of that size-- My old Nissan Sentra was a 1.6'er (GA16DE), and I always thought it was okay for getting around, although admittedly quite modestly so. 110 HP and 108 ft. lb torque. Always loved getting out there on the road and taking trips-- For 10 years that 1.6'er got me where I wanted to go, and continues to drive for the new owner after I sold her. 120k miles and still going strong (and believe it or not, I never changed the timing chain, and the clutch is still original!).

Take care of those little bangers and they won't let you down! :bt:

Evil Homer MP5 June-27th-2002 03:50 PM

Hey, i have a 1991 toyota corolla which is a 1.6L engine.

JAC June-27th-2002 06:55 PM

Well, I will be getting my new 1.6l hatchback :) in the next few days, does that count?
