HELP with Parts
Hi everyone, I drive a Mazdaspeed Protege, and I haven't done anything to it yet. I'm wondering if I use the same mods for my car as the normal protege. Cause I was looking at a cold air intake and headers......... and wondering if it fits for the normal Protege, will it fit nicely on my car too???
If anybody know of any nice mods that fit very nicely on my car, please let me know.......... but I'm not up for a boost controller yet........ so nothing to do with that please.
Thank You

Hmm. Your a newbie, so I won't knock you too bad. Your MSP is TURBO. Your turbo exhaust manifold feeds the turbo exhaust gasses to spin the turbine. Headers are for naturally aspirated cars...they replace a normal exhaust manifold and help produce more horsepower because they are usually larger diameter than stock and direct flow more smoothly, thus it moves faster. Key point: a header will direct exhaust from the exhaust ports out to the muffler exiting the car, can't connect a turbo in there. A cold air intake would be of some benefit, but you will need to buy one specifically for an MSP..suspension parts interchange, but why would you want to? You have pretty much the best setup available and it cam on your car stock!..You want a good idea to up power without a boost controller ? 3" turbo back exhaust. Go custom, there arent any off the shelf and an exhaust shop will make it cheaper anyway
macdaddyslomo, you sound like a pro at this......... I'm just good at driving cars, i dun't know anything about the engine's or stuff like that, as you can tell. You are right about the suspension, it is tuned very very nicely......... i do not want to change the suspension setup or my rims or tires......... I like them perfectly......... what else should I do besides cold air intake??? Oh yea, So if I put headers, it will do nothing for my car?
Thanks dude
Thanks dude
re read my post..yes you can put on a header, but it will eliminate the turbo. so you would in effect lose a temendous amount of power. i also gave you an idea for a mod. 3" turbo back exhaust...big and SAFE power gain for about $300 from an exhaust shop. in the future please read the post before asking a question, as i answered both of your questions in my first post.
Macdaddy.....maybe your post was a little too "knowledge-based". I would recommend:
yo, listen up. The MSP is tite from the factory bro. What ya gotsta work on is ur airflow. get more air in and get more air out. Thats wut makes da mad power. Look for companies like INJEN, APEX, ION, buy their products or just buy their decals...either way is cool. Remember boost=torque and torque=fun.
*edit* Not trying to be an ***, but you should really learn about how a car works before making claims like "I'm already a good driver." It sounds as though you know very little if anything about vehicle operation. It makes your claim to be an above-average driver seem far-fetched. No flame intended.

Roddimus, you have a good point actually......... It's not possible for me to be a "good driver" if I don't understand the mechanics of the car, I guess that's what I'm lacking. Ok, let me rephrase, I am a "decent driver." Thanks for the tips and knowledge Roddimus and Macdaddyslomo.
Oh yea, one more question, can one of you guys post a website that has the best price for a carbon fibre hood for my car???
Thanks a lot

This is sorta off topic, but would suspension kits and intakes for a p5 fit a regular 4dr sedan pro? I thought they were the same engine just one is a hatchback, but I've seen things just for p5 (lowering springs, intake)I have a 03 Protege LX.Thanks in advance.
Since this appears to be a "newbie thread" I'm going to have to mention how important the "SEARCH" button is on an internet car forum. These questions have been answered many times before.
The P5 protege is 2.4" shorter than the sedan. The rear subframe is different and spring rates are different and rear exhaust section will be different. The engines are the same as is the transmission. Intakes would work, suspension won't...you will need a p5 specific suspension upgrade.
PLEASE do not buy a carbon fibre hood. I can't describe how annoying these things are. I understand people like the looks of the hood, but when you make a modification with the sole purpose of cosmetic gain you start the long downward spiral on the road to Ricer-dom. Carbon Fibre is supposed to replace heavier (NON-FUNCTIONAL for the most part) pieces. If you are interested in the performace aspects of carbon fibre you should invest the $700+ dollars on other upgrades.
Six, a great driver in a slow car will almost always beat a bad driver in a faster car. This happens to be the case just about every weekend when I go to the track. I can't tell you how many times I've outrun 220+hp RSX type S's, Mustang GT's, honda's...etc. Learn how to get the most out of your vehicle and then make the mods to it that will help you get more. I've seen more wrecks from kids in EVO's and STi's because they can't handle the power. For $700 (price of CF hood) you could easily get a 2-day driving school that will help you out more than any intake or suspension ever could.
Let me know if I can help anymore after you use the search button!!

Roddimus.......... I live in Vancouver, BC, and I haven't seen many MazdaSpeed Protege's around......... I've only seen 2 others.......... anywayz, I just want my car to be unique from the rest of the Mazdaspeed Protege's in BC, that's all........ and I think a carbon fibre hood would do it......... It's mainly for that unique look......... I'm not planning to do any other exterior mods........ Also, I agree that driving lessons would be cool and useful, but for daily driving and those lil street races every now and then, it is not required.........
You must have the wrong impression of me...... or maybe I presented myself in a way that gives a false impression............ I do not think power is as important as the driver. A good driver with a slow car can beat a bad driver with a fast car in a course that requires corners. I'm not about speed, I'm more of a suspension/cornering person...........
I'm not one of those people who want more speed and more speed cause I think faster parts will equal faster car.......... The car is limitd by the driver........... I just feel that the mazdaspeed Protege needs a lil bit more speed............ The car suites me very nicely, the only thing it is miissing is a lil bit more speed........ and I mean, just a little bit.

yes, suspension parts ARE interchangable, but if you put sedan springs on the wagon you end up like mine with a rear that looks like it's sagging....I considered this not to be a CORRECT swap. A good swap would have maintained proper ride height in the rear, but yes the pieces will fit. I actually like the lower rear since it keeps the rear planted a little harder in the tight turns.
i'd go with cold air intake...F/I cams from perfworks, turbo-back exhaust (www.corksport.com)...and a boost controller...leave the suspension alone!!! well, i'm putting a set of eibach sport-lines on the wife's mp3...but she doesn't drive the car like it should be driven...she's carrying our 10 month-old son in the car with her. just my opinion!
depending on how much you want to spend on your MSP I would recommend your first upgrade be the AEM ecu. The car already handles beyond anything you'll ever need and the ECU upgrade should surprise you with a significant boost in power.
pm me for further info.

Hmmm, I think cold air intake and ECU sounds really good. I will definately get the cold air intake, and I don't know about the ECU enough, but I'll pm Roddimus about it. Thanx for the great idea.
I still haven't been able to find many carbon fibre hoods for my car...... except 2, both are evo. style ones............ I would really appreciate it if someone knew of a site that had more selection for carbon fibre hoods for my car.
Thanks a lot
