Dealing with sales
#31
When I went to Mazda it was great. I had been to a few other dealerships and tried to purchase cars they had and I was lied to many times. A salesman told me that a new civic EX retails for 23,000 dollars(american). The salesman would go away and come back with info that he knew we didn't need. We told one we were paying cash for this car but we weren't going to buy it for the price that he quoted us. He said, "ok ill be back." 20 minutes later he comes back and says, "I worked out the numbers, if you buy it for the price I quoted you your monthly payments would be this." Then we got up, left and never went back.
When I went to Mazda they had my car sitting there with a sign in it for $15,500. MSRP was over 18k. A month later I went back and the car was still there. A salesmam came out and I went on a test drive and asked him if I could still get the car for the sale price. He said yeah. A few weeks later I went back again and got the car for $15,500 which was 400 over invoice after the $1500 rebate. Then I wanted mud guards and a block heater. This part I don't think we did too great. We got them to throw them in for a little under $200. They said it was dealer cost but I wasn't sure about that because theres really no info on the net about dealer accessories.
The fees I payed were title and registration. Theres no tax where I live. But those are the only fees you should pay. The title and registration fee was about $400.
The most important thing when buying a car is knowing as much as possible about the car. I did research on cars for about 4 months before I decided on my car.
A friend of mine had bought a car a few weeks before me and he did no research at all. Just went and bought it. He payed $1000 over MSRP and got no accessories.

Hi guys, thanks for the tips.
I have been exchanging e-mails with the internet sales rep. of a deal the last few days. Right now we seems to agree on around a mid sixteen figure, but he still haven't give me an exact number yet. I am heading out to the dealer tomorrow for a test drive and some final bargin for the price and financing.
Any last minute advice I need to know about?
I am pretty much having myself all prepared right now.
I have a little binder with me containing all the papers I would need. I have a list of cars in the dealer's inventory listed with details from their colors to their VIN numbers.
I have my own credit report and the FICO score.
I have the invoice, MSRP, and TMV price of the car, options package, and accessories.
I have printed out the e-mail we exchanged (especially about the price).
I have the newspapaper ad from a Seattle dealer that offer the price tag of $15249.
Anything I should have with me on top of those?

Print out a copy of other cars. Like the matrix and vibe. Just so they think your looking at other cars. I brought a few different cars with me and they kept asking me about them . Makes them a little uneasy about the deal. Binder is a good thing. Makes you look a little more serious. Other then that you seem pretty prepared. You have definitly gone about this the right way.
