I like it both ways, with the R.R. crossbars on and off. With them on it looks rugged, with them off it looks sleek. I currently have mine off.

Dunno about other members here, but I have never used my roof rack (although I have had the car for less than a week - never put it on!) but there is a red P5 at my school which regularly has a bike or two on on it.

I personally don't like the look of the roof rack. I prefer a sleek clean car, its too bad the structures are black and not colour matched to the cars. Why have a roof rack if your not going to use it, it just cost more, creates noise, worstens the aerodynamics and gives people the impression your going on a safari. Just buy a truck and you can still have all those options. Just my two cents (three cents CAN) on what i think of roof racks.

We, in Canada, don't get the roof rack as standard. Just as well, as I like the sleek look of the car without it, and I would never use it anyway. My last vehicle was an Explorer, which came with a roof rack that NEVER got used in 4 years of ownership. Even if I were to use it on the "Exploder", the vehicle is fairly tall that I would be afraid of scratching the hell out of the roof trying to load a bicycle or whatever on to it every time. My wife and I have no kids, so we just fold down the seats and throw everything in the back, where it is dry and secure. If I need to carry something beyond the interior capabilities of my P5, I'll just borrow my father-in-law's van.

a little confused...

Larry quick question for you, are you talking about the black "strips" that go over where you took the base of the roof rack out? or are you talking about the entire roof rack off? please explain what you mean... im a little confused.

P5 roof rack = lots of drag / windnoise @ higher speeds with or without sunroof. I took mine off a week after I bought the car. If I want to haul something on the roof, I'll do it with my SUV.

Larry, how long have you had your P-5? NOT LONG? go back to the dealer and demand the pieces.....it seems that there are a lot of guys that do the prep on these cars that have no idea what they are and they trash them.....the idiots.....and YOU were supposed to get all four pieces as part of the price of your car....so seeing as how you didn't get them...go back to the dealer and inform them that you did not get them when you purchased your car and that you didn't realize that they were missing until you went to take your rack off...and you didn't have the pieces to put on the runners to cover the holes.....don't allow them to BS you....you are entitled to them.

Or maybe he dealer is just trying to rip people off. Selling those racks insert covers separately for extra profit he isn't suppose to earn.

and a few members here realized the same thing you did later on....and went back to the dealer and the dealer GAVE THEM TO THEM....they realized their mistake.....if your dealer is telling you that you have to buy them....put in a call to MazdaUSA, tell them what that specific dealer is doing....I bet you get them free....
