Corksport Power Series Exhaust

I am thinking of ordering the CS Power Series exhaust system but I am wondering if this would be a worthy purchase considering it eliminates the second cat. I heard that this may cause backpressure which isnt good on a non turboed car. Is this true or would this be a good upgrade for me?

INGREXCO February-22nd-2005 12:47 AM

less backpressure you mean.

Roddimus Prime February-22nd-2005 08:11 AM

backpressure (or no backpressure) does NOT make power...It's exhaust gas velocity that makes (or breaks) power.

If it's any consolation I have a non turbo protege and I'm buying the CS exhaust.

dudeondacouch February-22nd-2005 08:20 AM

I also have the CS exhaust and I like it. Better power gain from a header though. (and easier to install)

TheJackyl February-22nd-2005 03:21 PM

thanks guys, i dunno where i heard that but ya i plan on ordering the cs exhaust and a header any recomendations for a header to get?

kargoboy February-22nd-2005 05:19 PM

My next upgrade is going to be the Wagner shorty header. I wanna stay legal and don't feel like removing the first cat. There are a lot of people who like the OBX, though.

Roddimus Prime February-22nd-2005 09:56 PM

yeah, the two main choices are based on your emissions preference.

OBX - $230-ish, 4-1 polished stainless steel about 7-10whp (a LOT Of top end pull), removes pre-cat, throws CEL, requies MIL

Wagner SHorty - $285-ish, satinless (iirc), retains pre-cat, 7-10whp gain (more midrange), requires no other modification

tonkabui February-22nd-2005 10:08 PM

don't forget the ractive header for about $200 as well.

tonkabui February-22nd-2005 10:11 PM

oh yeah, and just so you know what you're getting into... removal of second cat, use of small resonator and canister muffler WILL result in a dramatic increase in noise. (and raspiness with the addition of a long-tube header)

Roddimus Prime February-22nd-2005 10:16 PM

forgot the ractive.....i thought it was identical to the froza/obx

Anarchistchiken put on his obx header, mam cat-less midpipe and magnaflow exhaust and it sounded almost identicle to my obx header and ms muffler. I didn't notice much noise difference at all.

JHew84 February-23rd-2005 12:44 AM

there is a GB going on right now for the corksport power series, might want to check it out, over on another protege forum, i'm in on it, can't wait to get it :D...

TheJackyl February-23rd-2005 03:47 AM

whas the other forum caz ima be ordering the cs exhaust soon!

so i should go with the wagner header? and not obx? i dont want to throw an cel

dudeondacouch February-23rd-2005 08:35 AM

you can still go with the obx, just ge a MIL eliminator from Vielster.

Roddimus Prime February-23rd-2005 09:21 AM

the wagner header is a great piece. It's shown to make more on a dyno than the obx but only 2whp more. The wagner unit is also about $85 more. The reason people typically choose it is to keep emissions.

I thought that was with their hiflow downpipe as well.

Roddimus Prime February-23rd-2005 12:07 PM

nope, it was header only and it made a little more power.....I bet it's killer up top with the DP!!

i did not know that, nice...

and yes i bet it does.

Buddha February-23rd-2005 01:22 PM

If you install an obx header which gets rid of the first cat., you need a mil eliminator right? If you also in stall the cs catback dosent it get rid of the second cat??? If is does does that mean you need another mil eliminator for the second cat or do you only need one if you get rid of the first cat.

dudeondacouch February-23rd-2005 01:27 PM

you only need one for the header. the second cat does not have a sensor after it. and yes, the CS exhaust replaces the second cat with a resonator.

beware: the obx with the CS exhaust is LOUD!

Omron February-23rd-2005 04:03 PM

i heard talk that the Shorty has less whp gain then the standard header such as the one from OBX that romoves the cat....

is that true or false... iam considering my next upgrade, and thinking a shorty would be the next best move to match my Borla

INGREXCO February-23rd-2005 04:20 PM

try running it with the stock msp muffler i bet it sounds totally bad ass

kargoboy February-23rd-2005 04:24 PM

Tsk, tsk, you didn't read the whole thread:

lol i hope i dont get struck down by thunder lol,,, nah, i was just curious, heard other people from the street trash talking the traits and the performance of shorty style header thats all..

but ya, i might look into it...

:)

i might get the shorty

the group buy is only like 20 cheaper, and im waitin for my next pay check an what not so ill wait but thanks for the info:) so if i get the obx, with the cs it will be loud? how loud and deep loud or that bumblebee shit loud?

JHew84 February-24th-2005 03:42 AM

when i put my order through it knocked 50 off the regular price, and you get a discount on the silencer, i suppose the price might be different for the P5 though...

It won't be rumbly, but it also will not be a whizcan (bumblebee) It will sound like a race header with a catless exhaust. (cuz it is) very Loud, poppy.

INGREXCO February-24th-2005 11:42 AM

you know for those of you that want this for your p5 but dont want the fart can it comes with, i just remembered i still have my corksport exhaust from my mazdaspeed but do not have the muffler it came with. if anyone is intrested pm me

sedans and wagons are different, the mazdaspeed exhaust wont bolt right up to a P5...

INGREXCO February-25th-2005 09:29 AM

mine does not have the muffler thus it will bolt up to the wagon.... i am almost 100% positive of this.

what are you talking about? the group buy saved me $59...

TheJackyl February-25th-2005 04:11 PM

ya i know, i read the thing wrong:( but youll have that

dudeondacouch April-25th-2005 08:57 PM

he's talking about from the header flange back to the axle...

those two sections are the same on both the sedans and wagons.

VFR pilot April-26th-2005 10:25 AM

here's a group buy going on w/ the Wagner shorty header.

Any dynos to post of that? Was that with or without a highflow cat? I'd be interested just cut down on the noise a little...

Roddimus Prime April-26th-2005 11:19 AM

the dyno's were posted on msprotege a long time ago when it first came out. It was with the STOCK cat....thats what I found so impressive about it.
