if i paint it then yes, its by my hand. Thats not what cauees orange peel. They could prevent it with proper chemicals AND/OR painting enviroment

single stage

this is what i was told by my dealer that we have single stage enamel paint on the yellow. however, i was told quite specifically that the yellow is the only one like this. if you were told that the red is also single stage then that is yet another discrepancy in our little "paint gate".

also if it is single stage does that mean that paint lifting is normal. i would think this would be bad regardless of the type of paint you got.

MAZDA JAPAN SITE

I just checked out the Mazda Japan site and have this link which they talk about a new paint system that Mazda developed.

it is really crazy to paint the way they are now with 3 wet coats of 3 different process' of paint. check it there is some kewl info on the new process they are using.

To answer the question of what type of paint I spray with: I dont work at a shop any longer as I dont enjoy painting for the Money. I now paint outta my home and enjoy what the final product becomes. I use Dupont Brand Paint and specifically Chrome One for its perfect atomization the comes from my Matteson IQ pressure pot spray gun, (lock and load seperate tips for base and clear).

We're not talking about the Miata SE; that's Blazing Yellow Mica, which is a different color completely. All of Mazda's Mica colors are clearcoated seperately. We're talking about the internet order only Miata, which is Vivid Yellow, paint code HZ, of which only 239 were made. Lazer Blue Mica was also a color option as a part of that promotion (same blue as on the MP3), and I believe 159 were made of them, but again, all Micas are clearcoated, so that's a non issue.
You can refer back to my posts and see that I've reported several VY Miata owners telling me that their independant body shops have found the VY to be a one stage process. This explains why the paint is pulled on some cars and not others. To the best of my knowledge, all of Mazda's colors (on the Miata at least) started receiving clearcoat in mid 99; red, black, and white were not clearcoated up to that point. They changed over to the two step method for these colors; the red is not a one stage paint. Vivid Yellow is the only color in the Miata ranks to do this. The others aren't an issue. Considering it's all the same paint, regardless of what model it's applied on, this makes perfect sense.
As for mirrors, etc, being painted off car: yes, the mirrors are done off car, as are ground effects. Although that's the case, they still go through the same paint process using the same paint, so the fact that people are pulling the paint off of just their mirrors on the VY is purely coincidental, and lends further credence to the "bad mixing" theory, what with having a "bad batch" applied to the mirrors rather than the car, or vice versa. If certain body parts weren't clearcoated, everyone would be pulling paint off of them, regardless of color, which isn't the case. Assuming VY is indeed a one step paint, VY owners would then have less of a chance of pulling paint off of them than would a "normal" color owner if it were true that they weren't clearcoated.

Just thought I could shed some light on this topic again. I emailed Meguiars asking about the yellow I get on my applicator. Here is the original email and response.

I purchased Meguiars 3 step system. I have a Yellow 2002 Mazda Protege 5.When I applied the Paint Cleaner, I noticed that there was some yellow on the applicator after I removed the cleaner. It seems some of my paint came off. Could this be true, or is the the cleaner itself turning yellow? I didn't notice this yellow on each section of the car I applied the cleaner to, only certain sections. I also notice this yellow when I used the Polish and Wax (step 2 and 3). Can you please tell me why this might be happening? Have I "eaten" through my clear-coat? Any comments/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
RESPONSE
The yellow that your are seeing is normal. This is usually an indication that your car was not clear coated or your clear coat is a tinted clear coat. Being that it was only noticed in some spots as well as just a little bit it sounds as though you may have a tinted clear coat. Seeing the pigment of your car on you applicator tells you that the products are working. You need not fear harming your paint and or clear coat.
