AC button light
Anyone have any problems with the a/c light on the button flashing on and off? It's not just the light flashing on and off the a/c compressor is going on and off too. This is an intermittant problem. The midwest is having a hot summer and the a/c on this car sucks. If driving around town the car never cools down on the inside. I realize the light problem is probably a bad switch but can't decide if the cooling problem is just the new freon or a problem with the system. Seems other posts have mixed opinions on the coolness of the a/c system. Any suggestions?

It's under warranty so get it checked at the dealer. The compressor usually cycles when the A/C is running properly, but the light doesn't turn on and off. It may just be a bad relay, or you may have a low charge in the system causing the low pressure switch to turn the A/C off. This is to keep the compressor from burning up since the oil that lubricates it is suspended in the charge. You may have a leaky system. My A/C has never had a problem and works fantastic. We live near Spokane and I just drove it the other day when it was over 90 out. No problems and the interior stayed cold. I never even have to turn the fan on all the way.

also get your windows tinted...if ound this helped with the heat in the interior

Yeah, I've noticed the same thing once or twice. The AC light flickered for a little while.. I pretty much assumed that it was just a loose light bulb connection because the AC still worked fine. If I notice that the flickering affects the compressor, I'll definetely have it checked out. Otherwise it's just a minor annoyance.
I kinda figured that it was either the stiff suspension or the mazdaspeed exhaust that I just installed (and love) that loosened the light bulb. |
My car did the flashing thing once. The compressor definitely turned off when it did it. I had to turn off the A/C and turn it back on for it to work. If you take your car to the shop let me know what they tell you it is.

I found that in 90Degree heat you have to drive for like 15 min until the engine belts out really cold air. I have a 99 GMC Jimmy also, and it just belts out the cold air instantly. I think engine dispacement is a big factor to how long AC takes to cool down a car. :nono: :headshot:

Usually with Mazda, the light flashes on and off if there is a fault in the system. My 89 MX-6 Turbo did that alot, it was found to be a bad ground under the hood. The second time it was a bad
ac relay. |
My light flashes when I change the fan speed. Otherwise it's steady.
Also, R-134a (what's in our cars) is a good refrigerant with almost the same cooling power as R-22. Therefore, it's simply an inadequate cooling system for the car. |
I have to admit the A/C could be better in this car but it's cold once it has a chance to run for several minutes. I live in Arizona where we're averaging 110 degrees lately. It's about a 10 minute wait until the A/C feels cold after the car has been sitting in this heat for more than 30 minutes. Not too bad considering my other car takes 5-6 minutes to cool down. It's not the worst system but it's not the best either. But I'm satisfied with it.

man, replace that A/C LED with a blue one, the performance color alone will fix all your problems

Yeah.. Mine flashes while I'm going from AC setting 1 to 2.. But, it only does it some of the time.. Weird.

Mine does the exact same thing as hitek's. From Speed 1 to Speed 2 or from Speed 3 to Speed 2. It flickers on and off. If I jiggle the fan switch, sometimes it gets better.
I've told the dealer about it, but of course everytime they look, it works fine. |
