2003 MazdaSpeed

Don't know if it is 2003 or 2003.5, but I don't like it! The bright yellow color was alright, but the oval exhaust tip and the new spoiler?! Terrible! I didn't even take the time to look over the rest of the car, as I was almost late to work. Gotta say though, the black MazdaSpeed  and the Sentra SE-R

I'm sorry, I get so many looks as I drive, not to mention the sound of the blow off valve really suprises a lot of people. Also , which I thought was great, when I saw another Mazdapseed owner driving, I was next to him, and instead of reving at me and trying to race, he gave a friendly wave and a smile, really gives a good name to Mazdaspeed owners in my opinion...

I want those wheels damn it.

DAMN IT.

If you call mazda they can order them for you, I think the lug pattern is the same. Just know that there about 320.00-390.00 per rim. I know this because I called to get a price on one because I want an extra one to have.

No, I like that car. It's the newer ones with the larger rear spoiler I am not a big fan of. That black MazdaSpeed is awesome, as I said in my first post. :p

gcs118 June-5th-2003 08:28 AM

Ah yes, and the latest one I saw had no fog lights...only grill covering the holes where they should have been. What's up with that?!

Those are ducts to help cool the brakes.

MS Protege

This car looks awesome in black! I WISH I could sell or trade-in my '02 PR5 for this fine ride. Mazda should continue to sell this model every year even in limited quantity...

Thats the 2003.5 models, all of them are like that, were as mine is the 2003 which has the fogs and the smaller spoiler. I like the fact that the kinda changed it a little cause it means that mine is just that much more rare.

Any word on if they will continue the 2003.5 changes into 2004?

However, I wonder if they actually direct air to the rotors, or just point it in their general direction like the front air dams on the 93-95 RX-7 R-1/R-2 and 94-97 R-Package Miata.

There will not be a 2004 Protege. There will be a 2004 Mazda 3. :) However, I think that the 3 is coming out later than normal and 2003 is going to wind up being an extra long model year for the Protege, like the 97 Miata, 91 RX-7, and/or 69 Camaro.

So you're saying my 2002 is a unique car with the body style and wheels? No other years were produced like it? Sounds like quite a collectors item ;)

Farsyde June-6th-2003 10:11 AM

is the mazda 3 a complete redesign or a new car model?

kc5zom June-6th-2003 11:45 AM

New car model, moving to the same platform as the next Focus and S40.

Totally new. The Protege as we know it will cease to exist.

Protege52003 June-6th-2003 10:01 PM

yeah....i agree w/you!!!!

I have no idea that i even wrote this last night. I was not even drinking last night. I think the MSP is a sharp car. I like the spoiler better on the 03' model and think the fog lights look good on the car. I have no idea how this got here......sorry for you MSP drivers.....wish I had one.

Hi there, I have my LX sedan with MP3 bodykit and front bumper conversion. My question is where can I get the large MP3/Mazdaspeed foglight? Dealer? Anywhere cheaper?

Thanks a million's million.

--------------------------------
Protege LX
MP3/Mazdaspeed front bumper conversion
MP3 bodykit
HID conversion at 8200K (silver & purple)
1996 GS-R spoiler (looks & fits perfect & cheap)
17" Konig Monsoon alloys
205/45/17 Kunmo Supra 712
No drop
No engine mod, but will consider replacing the 2.0L with 2.3L if it will fit.

The best place would probably be the dealer, they can get pretty much anything from any of the cars. It's all OEM genuine Mazda parts, but you pay for it. You could go with somthing aftermarket but it might not fit and won't be of the same quality.

Well, the Protege is dated. Time for a refresh. At least you and I have one! :D

mygreenmazda June-7th-2003 07:36 PM

Last night I saw a yellow mazdaspeed and man the wing is so fu**ing ugly, I felt like :mach: and the exhaust looks gay, it looks like one of those mufflers that you buy for 40 dollars from ebay. The wheels look awesome but I rather have a black one or an orange one.

Exactly why I started this thread, I feel the same way. How could Mazda do that to the MazdaSpeed Protege?!

leungwingkei June-8th-2003 08:07 PM

Scraping the foglight idea would've been better if they put standard HID into the headlamp system.

You quoted his question but you didn't read the answer? And there are pics of the P5 replacement floating around on the board and elsewhere (try "Sportif" on the search).

Yea, maybe... But I think the new hyundai sonata's or whatever have HIDs... They look hella bright anyway

ughh. Its all smoke and mirrors. I'd take a reliable as hell protege over a hyudai anyday.

leungwingkei June-9th-2003 11:27 AM

Or they should offer it as an option, since the Focus SVT has optional HID too. :)

I think that I'm going to go with the Mad Catz HID system in my car. I think that would just look sick on my mazdaspeed.

Last quality survey I saw (don't remember who but it wasn't that crappy JD Powers one that rated the Mini bad for cupholders and the H2 bad for gas mileage) rated Hyundai just below Honda and Toyota (Toyota was highest). Mazda tied with Chrysler, BMW, and VW.

Farsyde June-9th-2003 11:38 AM

maybe it's my prejudices but something about hyundai's just doesnt sit right with me. It'll take many years of quality cars to change my mind.

There is no way Mazda tied with Chrysler. Maybe BMW and VW, ok, but Chrysler?! I can't believe that...

well it seems like a really nonsence survey to me, to me mazda iz much better than Chrysler, and about the same with VW but BMW is definetly better than all of the cars listed above, no honda or toyota can compete with BMW
just my 2 cents

kc5zom June-9th-2003 05:48 PM

It was Consumer Reports. I just found that article in AMI again.

If it was just consumer reports, that would include many automotively uneducated people as well. Like on the reviews for the H2, the people wondered why it got poor gas mileage. Many consumers don't know the basics that we take for granted.

That was JD Powers to my memory, not Consumer Reports.

Honda and Toyota are the benchmarks for quality in case you have been sleeping in a ditch for the past two decades (sometime you might go look at an Accord or Camry and find out why, build quality and materials are excellent). BMW's are great, but they aren't immune to QC problems (ask an M3 owner). Some of those issues over the past couple of years have been pretty severe. And of course when you buy a BMW you get the funny ergonomics that goes with it. VW has had their fun issues with the ignition coils and build quality has been slipping. Mazda was in the upper group of the survey that most people utilize when purchasing their vehicles, even if it is flawed. Guess what? Mercedes was one of the worst, and after this weekend I can believe it. For such expensive cars they had numerous issues with build quality.
