'01 Rust??

So get this, I have an ES '01 and I love it, no major problems to date. I do keep up with my washing/waxing, although not as regularly as I would like, however, I have noticed some rusting or oxidization...not to worry, it's not on the paint, or the car but it's the little silver Mazda, and Protege nameplates on the rear end of the car, they have started to rust or corrode or something.

Any one else had a problem like that at all...or know of any ways to clean it up a bit?

that's odd, because they are plastic!

I don't think they're rusted, as njaremka pointed out, the symbols are plastic.

However, if you're talking about a bit of white marks that look like corrosion, then I've heard of that. Some people have used Turtle Wax chrome polish and fixed it up.

I thought I had that on my symbols too, but I think it was just excess wax that I hadn't buffed off because the "corrosion" isn't there anymore.

I have that on my MAZDA badge. When I press on it, it makes a crunching sound. I think its corrosion of some sort. I havent tried waxing it yet, but I will as soon as I have time.

Now why would it make that crunching sound it there was nothing stuck between it and the car? How do I get it off to clean under it?

Corrosion

Do they use "salt" on the roads up there in the winter? I get some of that on the cars that come into my dealership. It is salt corrosion from when they salt the roads. It collects on the backs of the cars. You can repalce them but need to keep them cleaned and wax the help curb the problem.

It is a corrosion product, those plastic peices have a chrome metal covering. The dealership will replace them if it is under warrenty. (well should replace it) I know a few guys with hondas and so on that have theirs replaced.

Ya they use salt up here.

I feel a little silly asking for a badge from my dealership after I took off the dealership sticker.

Thanks

Thanks for all the replies guys, I will talk to the dealer, but what kind of warranty do they offer on badging? Anyways, I feel a bit silly cuz I too realized they were made of plastic, at about the second I pressed the post button, oh well.

Thanks again.

You paid how much for the car again? The second biggest investment in your life. If your plastic is looking like sh*t, make them replace it.
You also didn't pay for a dealership sticker. I tossed the license plate holder on mine the first day I had it. If they want advertisement space on my car, they can pay for it like everyone else.

Assuming I sold advertising space on my car.

Which I don't

Unless Playboy wants to call me

then I might consider it.

Alright thanks again...I suppose they shouldn't care, luckily for me my dealership doesn't put on any dealer advertising outside of the plate frame, but when someone stole my plate last summer they made out with the frame as well....so no more dealer recognition.

I'll ask them about it.
