What oil and oil filters are everyone using?

I am getting close to my first oil change and would like to know what oil and filters everyone are using or recommend.

Been seeing alot on the pages about using a bigger oil filter, which cars filter should I ask for.

I use Fram filters and Valvoline 10/30 wt. Pretty generic but it's worked for me on other cars. Change every 3k.

Fram PH6607 filter and Mobile1 fully synthetic.

gcs118 May-23rd-2003 09:31 AM

Why on earth would you use Mobil 1 oil with a Fram oil filter?

90210brandon May-23rd-2003 10:02 AM

Yeah, I put in Fram and used Quaker State. The fram cleaner sucks ass. I WILL never buy it again. They are so cheaply made.

Hey gcs118, you should try supporting shots at people instead of just asking inane questions. Why don't you enlighten me if you’re the authority on this topic?

OEM Mazda V6 filter. Same price as the stock filter with a larger filtering capacity.

Padanky, if you want to use a larger filter, just look up the V6 filter for a 626, Millenia or MX-6. Like everyone has said though, stay away from Fram!

Oh, and I use Mobil-1 10W30.

Mobil 1 full synthetic 10w30 oil.Mobile 1 V6 filter part #M-110. Fram is garbage

MinnowGT May-23rd-2003 11:45 AM

mobil 1 or amsoil 5w30 or 10w30 - whatever I have closest
to my hands when doing the oil change.

I have been using the bosch premium v6 oil filter or the
mobil one.

?? did they change the oil filter for the 2002 2.5L v6 626 ??

I was looking the other day at the K&N filters and saw that
the 2002 626s had a new filter specified for them which was
quite large and beefy. ->> k&n HP-2010 it still lists the 2001
as using the smaller HP-1010.

I'm no expert, but Fram is generally considered one of the crappiest oil filters you can buy. Why pay a lot of money for quality synthetic oil when the particles are still going to circulate and cause wear? It doesn't seem worth it then.

90210brandon May-23rd-2003 02:29 PM

I'm coming up to the oil change quickly now and the Fram is no more! I am going with Richard's (90&00) advice with using the OEM ones. I trust his advice but, I'm thinking of using a 626 model if I can get one and not to mention if someone else chimes in not to, then I'll go back to the OEM for our pro's.

Penzoil 10W-30 and OEM filters.

DaleK May-23rd-2003 04:22 PM

With everything that I have ever read on oil filters, I have come to the conclusion that, generally, the oem pieces are the best. This seems to be the case for Mazda, and I also follow Richard's advice on this. The Mazda oil filters are well built. Some of the other brands are good as well, but over the life of the car, the difference in price for oil filters from one brand to the next won't be at all significant.
