Still no headers????

does anyone know if there are any headers out yet... i tryed the search button ... didnt get much information... so i thought i would just bring it back up.... are there evan headers for the older gen proteges?


i have seen some headers with like mazdaspeed and i think AWR. but those headers need some relocation of the o2 sensor.... and im not sure how to do that .....

if you know anything about headers comming out or how to correctly do the o2 relocation mod... please post something.

I've been looking pretty hard myself. From what I have found there are headers available that require some modifications. If you are looking for a stock replacement header one does not exist to my knowledge. UNless you consider the header on Corksport. Or you cna contact Traveller on this forum who has made his own and is selling them. Apparently he's having good success.

He's a nice guy that's quick to respond to questions so I would suggest sending him a PM if you are interested.

part number 111-252...its for a Mazda MX-6 2.0l.......i just got mine 2 days ago...Its a direct fit as far as bolting to the head, but some modifications ave to be done to the down pipe...I'm getting mine installed next week with a complete "cat-less" exhaust.

Traveler's is the only "header" available that I know of that also retains both catalysts, a must for some areas, plus it looks good IMO. You will need to relocate the O2 sensors on any 3rd gen Protege to equip a 4 to 1 header, I think. The header itself will replace the primary cat, and you will need to place an O2 sensor after the secondary cat to monitor the cat's performance, although some have used a o2 signal modifier and know catalysts. Anyway Their are some 3rd gens with the "non" california exhaust (the earlier third gens I think) and I believe they had only one cat. I am not sure about whether it was behind the radiator or under the shifter, so they may or may not need o2 placement modifiying.

The best looking one I have seen is the Autoexe Sport 20 header, but it will be $800+ to get it over here, and it may not work with our emissions systems. Private message wheelguru, I think he had some info on it if you are interested...But if I had the money I would go with Traveler's, it has decent gains in power and MPG, and seems to be really well made...

An even better question is, "Is anyone making a header that optimizes OUR 2.0L engine?". I am flying blindly here because I'm not familiar with the MX6 2.0l engine, but is it EXACTLY the same as ours? If not, the backpressure may need to be different in order to tweak all the available torque/HP blend as possible. Headers create major changes to the engine's peak torque and the RPMs at which it achieves that peak. A header should be tuned to THAT SPECIFIC engine in order to work correctly. Does the MX6 spec header do that? I realize it may be one of the only options...but does it work? Does it work WELL? Anyone done a dyno run before and after? What was the outcome.

I don't want to come across as a nay-sayer...not at all...but I hope there arent' people who are dropping half a thou on a header+install while flying blinding, thinking that ANY header will increase the power in THEIR motor.

where can i get this bostal header... and does the check engine light comes on when this is installed?


hey i got a good question.... how does the o2 senor work and where is it located on our cars? i got an idea ... but dont want to sound stupid ......

the bosal header is available...i have a connection on them. My friend owns a shop here in Ottawa and can get a good deal on them. He doesn't stock them...lots of Honda Ricer crap. But can get these if anyone is interested in them. I paid $550 tax incl. so if anyone is interested let me know.

Try reading the tech article on "back pressure". You don't want it. The point of a header is to allow a smoother blend of (in our case, four chambers) exhuast into a single pipe. They help to illiminate any resistance caused by gasses congregating around the exhaust ports. The blend of torque and power occurs more with the diameter of the exhaust system. Smaller (like a lot of stock systems) allows good exhuast gas speed which allows good low end grunt but fizzles power at high rpm. larger diameter guts low end torque (the gas pulses don't push each other out as well) but allows for better high end breathing and power...This is just a brief explanation and doesn't consider all the other factors so check out that article...

Nice point, but hey...let us be. I'm getting a dyno done after the instal. My dyno numbers were 102.7whp and 107wtq. These numbers include just AEM Short Ram Intake. This was also done on a Mustang Dyno. Which is a really conservative dyno machine. I know others have higher torque...but hey! So I will let everyone know if there is a increase or decrease in numbers.
