Revisiting a controversial mod

Okay, I'm taking a flame risk posting this, but I'd like to get your thoughts on it and actually try it out since you can get neodymium magnets for about $2 a small piece.

The links are a discussion about ionization of fuel mixture. The first link is interesting in that it supports ionizing both the air intake and the fuel line using opposing polarities so the oxygen molecules "bond" with the fuel molecules. I'm not a chem expert, so I don't know if this is baloney.

I was going to post a long answer but I think this link summarizes better...

But if you can find the magnets for cheap and want to give it a try...

Thanks for that link.

I'll try out the mod when I'm bored out of my mind cuz playing with neodymium magnets are fun! Those suckers can pull.

The EPA has already tested most of those "super gas mileage" gadgets and found that most will either have no effect at all or a small percentage will have negative effects lowering gas mileage.

I will try to keep this as un technical as possible regarding chemistry, but I think this guy is %100 ****. I didn't read the entire link so help me out if I miss something.

He claims that the use of magnets will better "Ionize" the O2 molecules and the gasoline.?. Gasoline is non-polar, meaning it has mostly uniform charges throughout the molecule. Polar molecules like water have "poles" on opposite sides of the molecule...But that doesn't matter. O2 by itself is non-polar as well. When combined with Hydrogen (again to make water) creates a polar substance, but the o2 molecules in the air are non-polar for the most part. A magnet will have no effect on the two substances that are important in an engine. His use of the term "Ion" is completely scewed, making it seem that Gasoline itself is charged, which it isn't...The oxygen and gasoline mix before combustion just by the swirling effects created during the intake stroke. The molecules do not have dipole-dipole bonds becuase there is no polar moment to begin with, so using a magnet, again, will do nothing to to mix these two substances.

Also common MPFI systems, like proteges have, keep the fuel and air seperate until it is in the cumbustion chamber. There for placing magnets in the intake manifold and fuel rail will be pointless even if it did have an effect on either gasoline or air. If this whole crazy theory was correct you would need to install the magnets inside the cylinder, which is stupid...

I did read over that link quickly so if I am missing something please correct me. But like the latter post, every single gas saving device I have seen has been a joke, and it would be extremely easy for these devices to be put on a stock engine by the factory...It's ****...

only thing is your use of the word "know" instead of NO is kinda irritating
Haha, I fixed it...I hate that too

I do it all the time for some reason, and I was in a hurry

Thanks for the informative post Installshield. The justification is almost always more important than the answer. And you did it with science. Cool.
