Has anybody tried to install an AEM bypass valve with the Injen CAI for the Protege5?

Any pics?

 

i will attempt to install the aem bypass on my intake this weekend. after reading aem's instructions, they say to install it as high on the intake as possible but between the filter and the maf.

i will try to post pics after saturday.

Cool... let me know how it works out. There doesn't seem to be many options for placing it. What size valve did you get (i.e. does it fit on the narrow pipe or the wider section that connects to the MAF)?

 

it should fit the narrow section of the pipe, as you don't want to mess with the seal of the MAF...here's my suggestion on where to place it. You'll need to cut the pipe. It's tight and you want to try to keep a minimum of 1" of straight pipe on each side of the cut (between the arrows) this will allow for the best seal of the AEM bypass valve.

Just wondering, but doesn't the Injen intakes come with the bypass valve now?

 

As far as I know Injen and AEM are in direct competition, so I would be very suprised if Injen would market their intake with a bypass valve (unless they started making their own). If they were planning to do so, you'd think the design would provide a little more room to put one in. I do know that MHF? (or something to that effect) makes a carbon fiber intake which does come with the AEM bypass valve.

 

The Mad House Productions Intake DOES come with the AEM bypass vavle.

While it looks pretty cool and all, parting with the $329 for one is a bit much to swallow....

 

If you head over to www.protege5online.com and check the Christmas Wish List it shows the Injen CAI w/AEM Bypass Valve in the list. I would thus assume that they are compatible.

Maybe Protege5Online puts them on before they sell them? I dunno.

 

i cant speak for Mitch (protege5online.com) but i dont think he puts them on the injen. If you want the bypass you will have to order it as well. And I think it is easier just to remove the red ring right b4 the MAF and put the bypass in its place. . . . I dont have it yet so i cant say for sure but eventually ill get it.

 

Injen CAI delivered with the bypass valve from www.autocarparts.com and they take credit cards.

Injen doesnt come with the AEM bypass valve. But I suggest getting it or the splash guard & try to add either of those to all Injens I sell for safety. I tell people to put it in between the MAF & the lower pipe because this allows you to do it without cutting the pipe. You do as someup said, replace one of the red hoses that connect the pipe to the MAF with the bypass valve. The valve is about an inch wider so you end up with a tight fit but it would be even tighter if you cut into the pipe. I havent seen any problems doing this yet, what do you think Darryl? You mentioned something about messing up the MAF, but I dont see any difference between sticking the valve on than sticking the hose on.

 

well, i was commenting more on the seal for the MAF sensor. It seems that this sensor is very sensitive, so i would think it better not to mess with the seals to the MAF....but then again, i have made quite a few different intakes and i have no problem cutting stuff

But if you have it that way and have not experienced any problems, then i guess it's ok then
