Plug wires and spark plugs

Hi,
I need to change my plug wires.
Is there a certain tye of plug wires that i could get to improve performance, or would the ordinary factory ones be just fine?

Also, is there any performance spark plugs out there to boost performance or is the factory ones just fine as well?

Redfyre March-6th-2005 08:42 AM

Ordinary plugs and wires are just fine unless you plan on doing a lot of mods to your car. I have irdium plugs and aftermarket wires and there is no difference in performance. In theory I suppose I am getting some better gas milage and a fraction of a hp gain, but it's not enough to notice any change.

Stick with the NGK wires.
Also get the ZFR5F-11 NGK copper plugs.

amrit March-6th-2005 11:25 AM

what's the difference with copper plugs and irridium plugs?

amrit March-6th-2005 01:35 PM

i found this on another forum

http://trinitun.webberz.com/forums/v...ic.php?t=42645

is this true? does anyone know?

I have the Magnecor 8.5mm wires and NGK ZFR5F-11 extended reach plugs, good combination IMO, I believe the NGKs are the best for our cars and certainly the best price, I have uses both NGK and Dens iridiums and platinum plugs and the Bosch +4s, the extended reach run the best, I change mine every six months and still save over the other brands.

with our dis coils, it is a waste to get anything bigger than stock wires. as for plugs, the stock ones are good, as are the extended reach ones. don't waste your money on the iridiums. it's all hype and no balls.

KagyMP5 March-9th-2005 03:15 PM

thats good to know

amrit March-12th-2005 11:46 PM

wait so guys, i should go with the ngk wires then?

midnightblue97 March-13th-2005 09:44 AM

Yes

amrit March-14th-2005 10:46 PM

Are there 4 plug wires in the Magnecor set? Pictures show only 2. Also, where did you order from? Thanks!

GNO March-18th-2005 11:31 AM

Only two wires with Magnecor as well. To my knowledge, the only 4 wire set for the 3rd Gen 2.0L is from Nology.

tonkabui March-18th-2005 01:01 PM

just two wires. the other two are the coils right over the spark plug, so those don't get replaced. for $80, two itty bitty wires for no gains is hardly worth it. if you want red wires, just get in with someone with a big v-8 who went with msd wires and use their leftovers. it works just the same.

dudeondacouch March-18th-2005 01:46 PM

or wrap some red elec. tape around them

So would any of you guys say that the Nology Hotwires are worth anything? And if they were to be purchased is it possible to get replacement coils to go with them? What about plugs, what kind would go good with the wires?

The only reason I ask is because I have them and I don't believe they were such a smart investment at all. I guess if I can make them worth my money by spending a little more on different plugs or such then I would at least give it a try ...

kargoboy April-1st-2005 03:53 PM

Nology wires worth nothing performance-wise.
Use NGKs, don't waste your money on anything else.

KrayzieFox April-1st-2005 05:36 PM

Am I in just as good hands going to a local auto store or should I look for the plugs online someplace?

amrit April-1st-2005 11:05 PM

speakin' of buyin' plugs, i need to know where i can get a set of plug wires fast!

i needed them like yesterday!

I'm lookin' for NGK wires, but I'm a bit worried as to if I know that it'd work on my car for sure. I don't want to buy something and it's the wrong 1 i purchased.

midnightblue97 April-2nd-2005 08:13 AM

Go to the fuckin dealer and buy the things.

I'm not from the US, I'm from Trindad. The dealer here won't have that for my car because it's different than the local models.

I have a model that was shipped in from Japan so the engine's a bit different.

midnightblue97 April-2nd-2005 03:09 PM

O.k. thats different.
You might still try to go to the dealer with your VIN number and they could look it up since plug wires for your car most likely will be the same for a few different model of Mazda.

amrit April-4th-2005 05:47 PM

i called the dealer here and talked to them and they said that they don't bring those plug wires here because of the different engine size. I'm kinda thinkin' that I won't get it in the US either because my engine is a 1.5l.

My car is a 99 familia shipped in from Japan, engine capacity 1500cc.
Is it possible to get plug wires for my car in the US, or could someone direct me to a website where I can purchase if they know?

goldstar April-4th-2005 06:22 PM

Check out the NGK website and also www.sparkplugs.com
You may be able to find the correct NGK wires at one or both of those sites.
