Anyone check to see if OBX's SS header facilitates the EGR port? I lost track of this little importance....
From what I've read, we need to keep the EGR function in tact. If they don't have this, it's useless for us. If no one's checked on this, I'll give them a call. Sure hope it has what we need..... Jim Edit: I just emailed them. Will post the reply (if any) when available. |
So has anybody ordered any of these headers? I put money down with HP around last September and haven't seen shit from them. I've heard OBX is pulling the same crap, and APC is nothing but crap. If I'd know it would take this long to get a bolt on set of pipes I'd have taken a different route. It's really pissing me off.
Defeating the OBDII sensor (2nd O2) is a piece of cake. The thing to note is that you don't want an inline cheater that still requires the sensor to be in the exhaust stream, because there won't be any place to put it in the header. Also the ECU is looking for a specific voltage input from it which is going to vary from one make to the other. If you were dealing with GM, they'd all be pretty much the same, but I wouldn't count on a WRX being the same as a Pro. Being that the sensor is narrow band, it will be necessary to meassure the output voltage and build a circuit to feed the ECU that specific voltage. Being an electrical engineer that's no problem, just let me know when someone has a set of pipes available with the ERG port in the right place, and that doesn't interfere with the lower radiator hose. |

I talked to a local shop of mine and they can't even order these headers yet. Seems like OBX has posted the part numbers but they haven't been making them yet. Go figure

Header Modification
I was just talking to a mechanic at a local shop. I've ordered the intake/exhaust cams so the header is now at the top of my list.
I was talking about the problems created with the secondary O2 sensor with an aftermarket header. He wondered why I wouldn't make a custom spot in the header for the sensor. I would imagine we'd need to do some measurements to find the right distance to place it at but is this a reasonable assumption? Would this work and perhaps preclude the need for an electronic duper of some kind? Any comments would be appreciated. Thanks |
No word from OBX
Go figure..... Oh well, at least AWR is trying to get us a header together. Mitch from Protege5online states he talked to Anthony from AWR, and it will have an EGR port.
We'll probably have to weld in an O2 bung, and relocate the 2nd O2 further downstream. Just another option in the header quest. They'll be right around $500. Stainless Steel. Jim |
Nice:)

I stand corrected
Tony from AWR is stating the header will have both ports (bungs) to facilitate our O2 sensors! :D
