new engine?

just wondering, if wanted to put a new engine in my car like a crate engine or something. would i need to put another protege engine on it, or could i possibly fit like the RX-7 rotary engine or something of that power caliber?

Well...."anything is possible" of course I mean with a lot of time and resources! And by "resources" I mean resources of the MONETARY kind. You would have to fabricate all kinds of [to use Rod's terminology] bracketry and re-route all kinds of things, not to mention have to figure out what computer to use to run your new engine, etc...

Is this what you are interested in? It's not for the faint of heart, believe me. We are still continuing to tinker with the ZX351 because it's just not easy to get everything done correctly the first time, especially if you are converting to rear wheel drive! :)

Good luck with your endeavors.

What Model and Engine Protege do you have ???

saitek April-13th-2005 07:54 PM

im definately looking into doing stuff to my cars engine area. the rotary idea came from a friend who knows where he could get me a full setup at not too bad a price. i have a 2001 protege es 2.0. i guess i just dont know if the the stock engine with 163000 km on it can handle any large amount of boost with out major mods.

kmaalfiisa April-13th-2005 09:20 PM

it can, just not at stock pressure handling. pisons, rings, block, seals, ect would haveto be beefed up for your motor to handle alot. but if you put a turbo and intercooler. pressure should be a little above average, and keep the psi on the turbo around 5 psi.

usually anything higher could damage the motor
keep in mind this would be for a stock motor

just do a compression test...if it's good , you're ok for boost

kmaalfiisa April-13th-2005 09:28 PM

you couldn't have said it any better

saitek April-13th-2005 10:53 PM

my biggest concern wasnt so much with compression but with fatigue but thats a start. if anyone can point in the right direction for internals that would be great and a price estimate too. but keep the input comming cuz as soon i get my ass over seas with the military ill be bringing home a shit load of change to throw at it. and all the suggestions and tips will be much appreciated. and if anyones wondering im hoping to get my hp up over 200. i want to have a kick ass sleeper that has shit loads of power but is completely unsuspecting

Roddimus Prime April-13th-2005 11:28 PM

200whp, sleeper effect....i know what you need.... something quiet....something without a fmic.....something that adds back say between 60-100whp on low boost.....if only such a product exsisted for a 2.0L engine you'd have a hell of a car on your hands!

saitek April-13th-2005 11:45 PM

yes but the boost guru have any thoughts on this

Roddimus Prime April-13th-2005 11:59 PM

if your compression is good you can add boost regardless of anything else. Wear isn't a real big concern at all anymore *(not since the 70's). Oils now are MUCH more efficient and provide much better durability.

low compression INDICATES excessive wear. once again if compression is ok you can boost...and maybe you should look at Matty's WOMP kit. I'm afraid he was being fececious(sp?) and you werent aware of it.

saitek April-14th-2005 12:06 PM

i should have guessed, but when your sickand tired your mind dont think straight. but whats the max i can get out of the supercharger kit?

Roddimus Prime April-14th-2005 12:51 PM

maximum limits haven't been reached yet. Needless to say though, you build up your engine and I'll give you as much air as you can handle.

saitek April-14th-2005 07:34 PM

you tell me what internals and engine build ups are needed and ill have it. when i get back from over seas ill have enough money to do the mods
