Question Might be getting a Protege again...??s about performance

Hi everyone!

Names Dave...currently own Z28, probably getting a 2000/2001 Protege ES in coming months. I have a couple general questions

What is the market like for performance parts (naturally aspirated?) How much horsepower is there for the taking?

Popular vendors (yeah, I visited the ones listed on the vendor's page )?

What kind of 1/4 times are you all running? My stock Z28 does the quarter in 14 sec, and while I'm thinking the Protege won't beat that () I'm hoping I won't be getting passed by Kias

Dave, our 1/4 mile times aren't so hot.....somewhere between 16.2 and 17 in stock trim. ...... it will be a big step down from your Z.....however....the little buggers corner like a damn slot car...I use to have a Rally Sport....and there is no way it could keep up with my P-5 through a twisty road.....not even close. The engines have a nice power band .... really pull nice from 3K up to 6K....

as far as how much you can get out of it? It all depends on how much you got to spend....there are a few here that have gone the turbo route with about 8 psi of boost and are making about 185 AT the wheels.

as the sign at the speed shop says..." SPEED COST MONEY, HOW FAST DO YOU WANT TO GO"

Yep. The RS now is purely 6 cylinder. Back in the day you could get an RS with a 305 V8.

and there is no way it could keep up with my P-5 through a twisty road
A 4th gen Z will pull .80-.84 g's stock, so its surprisingly snug to the road. However, hit a bump the wrong way, and the solid rear axle throws a coniption fit

How about strenghts/weaknesses in the engine or tranny?

Thanks for putting up with all my questions
