Kartboy Short Shifter

I've got a few questions my search did not answer. On the kartboy website it says the shortshifter is for mp3 and protege5, will this work on my protege es sedan? also it sounds like most people are using the stock bushings. so is it worth ordering them? also is it really easy to install. I'm afraid to screw something up.... thanks in advance.... also is the B&N worth another 60-70 dollars over the kartboy

I dig my karboy and a day or 2 after just installing the lever, I installed the bushings. Bushings are niccccceeeee. Much less play, and everything clicks right in. As for installation goes, EZ, if you're an idiot like me. PS--you need snapring pliers. Smaller ones if you will, the ones I got at Sears were a bit BIG. Go to www.twmperformance.com for PICTURED instructions on how to install the short shifter, and you should be cool. Just take your time and make sure that the car is COLD and hasn't been driven in a while (nothing worse than a hot catalytic converter steaming in your face). RAMPS are GOOD, unless you have a size -2 waistline unlike my big ***.

Karlos!

I have a B&M in my car and driven the same (2002 ES) with the Kartboy. The throws are very similar in length, however the Kartboy shifter sits much lower and holds the boot up to it, leaving no gap. My B&M doesn't have anything to help attach the boot securely to anything. I almost wish I had gotten the Kartboy over the B&M, especially that it is much cheaper. Go for the bushings while you are at it, you won't regret that. And installation is pretty straightforward and easy, as long as you have the right tools!

hmmmm your B&M didn't have the ring on the shaft to install the "E" clip on to hold up your boot? MINE certainly did....and it works just like the stock instalation..

but yes ALL the short shifters for the Protege, whether its a MP3, P5 or MSP all work in the DX, LX, ES, and whatever other letter desitnators there are in canada and other countries.

GO FOR THE BUSHINGS....I have the B&M....but got the bushings from Tom at Kartboys....they do make a difference.

it should come w/ clips... but i got mine second hand.. so nothing... but what i did was was twist ties inside the boot under the ring^^ and you can position it where ever you want it to sit

I have the E-clip. All it seemed to do was make a gap between the **** and boot, then just hold the boot down without actually attaching to it. Am I missing something?
