Angry If I only had a "brain"

This subject has probably been worn to death on here but Im a newbie on here so I hope you let me slide. I have a 2000 lx 1.6 that just happens to be governed at 100mph. This made it really fun on the way to Lake George New York racing a civic ex and a civic SI (my freind). Here I am cruising one mountain back, pedal floored maybe getting 105 going downhill he he!! I was wondering if anyone had gotten one of the piggy back systems to improve fuel to air and do any of these systems overide the governor? Thanks as always!!

seems like you had enough brain power to post this thread... why don't you use it to click on the FAQ and search buttons?

FYI,
I searched "1.6 cams" and found some helpful info. Give it a try

What part of MD are you from? Are you another potential College Park student.

BTW, our 1.6L aren't governed, it's basically drag. Some people can hit 115mph and some can barely hit 100mph. Some are also kept in better shape and slightly tuned-up more than others. But we do have rev-limiters.

why is it, my 2000 1.6l has hit 125mph, and had no problem doing so? i backed off at 125 because i caught up to the guy i was following to the airport. damned tollways.

Stick??

see thats the problem... unfortunately I have an automatic. Is yours a stick? I still have fun with it though. I didn't mention my specs so this is all I got so far: I have a borla muffler on a 2.25" pipe. I am about to add a APC header on it. See thats why I want to find a brain box for it. I do have a k&n air filter in it with direct air, custom. I don't think they make better throttle bodys for this car? If you know any let me know.I would like to port the intake. Are there any Fuel rails for this car? Well anyway Im new and Im just trying to get information on this car.

Any interesting hint people out there know about the 3rd Gen 1.6 2000lx please leave me any helpfully hints. And I have check out the faq's right after I posted my last message, my apologies.

Nice site

Nice site Foxy!! See I wanted to get a stick but when I first bought it I felt differently. I dont know why but my 2000 lx will not go past 100. And I have a lot more pedal and my rpm's are low. Its like I know the car would go faster but something is holding me up.

Same here. I can't get past 105, but when I first got it it used to reach 110. I wish I had a stick.

If strange how we have all the rpm room left too, but the speed doesn't increase.

i dunno i got a stick, and mine shuts off at 115. like it cuts the fuel, then as soon as i go under 115 it picks back up and goes. but as soon as 115 is acheaved. BANG no fuel and no i wasnt hitting the rev limiter.

Brain Box

I am thinking about getting a programable ecm for the car. Im not trying to get a piggyback system cause I have heard about Mazdas ecm overwriting everything at high rpm's. But if I replace the entire box and run it on the dyno I think I should be able to change it weither it is a fuel problem or if its governed.

I've got a 99lx 1.6 auto, when i first got the car i could get up to about 115-120 but with all the lift underneath the car it felt like i'd take off if i went any faster. I put an aluminum wing on my car and now when i'm at higher speed i've got good downforce on my rear, but the drag brought the car down to about 105mph.

Ground control

I am about to add ground control coil overs on the car to drop it and add a spoiler to decrese drag. But my car never really feels as if its lifting. I really want to make engine performance changes before I streamline it though.

Thoughts as to a sucesfull, yet costly mod to my car:

Haltech ECU
Borla exhaust 2.25" cat back
Relocation of Cat to install APC headers
Bullet cat.
Port/Polish head
Replace Intake Cams and if possible exhaust.
Comp. Fuel rail
Temp: Cool air through stock box/K&N air filter. Resivoir removed
MSD coil.

I don't know if its possible to get the throttle body machined or replaced yet though.

I would like eventually add a turbo system of sorts but it would have to be custom. I don't plan to add nos unless it is for race only. Costs to dag on much to keep filling.

I don't know how well it will do but I will continue to expierment untill this car is maxed!! I love this car!

technically, wouldn't a spoiler increase drag on a fwd car? why are you going to increase fuel if you're not increasing air? this is just going to make the car run rich. i dunno... good ideas. go turbo. screw the rest.

It shouldn't increase drag too much really. I am actually planning to add more air, thats why I was actually checking on the throttle body. I already have cool air on it which deffinately gives it way more torque and if I port it that is deffinately pulling more air to the engine. A turbo would be great but this is exactly why I am posting here: tryinbg to find possiblities and impossibites. If I am sucessfull there will be added air, added fuel and added spark all hopefully controlable by the Haltech ECU. The cams will add more air as well and get it ran on the dyno. I feel this could add alot of hp. Well see!! Hopefully it'll work. I however can do the work myself which will save alot of $$.

if it adds downforce (which will be barely if any) it will add drag...it could also add more drag by only blocking airflow without giving any downforce. Forget ******* wings...
