There is none. The Bosal exhausts for the Protege are all the chameleon style. This just means the muffler has an interchangable tip system.

But, there are two types of exhaust that Bosal offers for the protege...

(California)This one has a cat but no resonator

(Federal)This one has a resonator but no cat

Quick question: On www.protege5online.com Mitch said that all 2001-up proteges have california exhausts. Does this mean that I have to buy a CA exhaust to stay emissions legal (if I had emissions) or does it mean that the federal exhaust will not bolt on to my car?

markmurray77 February-11th-2002 01:32 AM

I believe to stay emissions legal you need to buy the California version.

MP3-Owner February-11th-2002 05:44 PM

The exhuast is great! The tip looks funny but the sound is awsome.

As for the california vs. federal...
Both systems bolt up to the application
However to stay emmisions legal you want the california.
If you dont have tests in your area then get the federal.

Umm why do people want their cars to sound like a damn Banshee or some pos dirt bike? ITS A CAR, its not supposed to go BRAAAATTTT BBRAAATTTTT. I mean I'm down for gettin an exhaust system, but not to be loud, I want performance, and I'll have it tuned so it sounds like performance not rice. Arrghh, I guess I just don't understand it when people are more concerned with sound and "attetntion getters" over performance.

MP3-Owner February-11th-2002 07:41 PM

Actually the Bosal is not a "LOUD ASS EXHAUST SYSTEM" but rather a beefy sounding system that DOES improve performance, or atleast it should because it removes the second cat in our cars(Not dynoed yet). But anyway I am saying get the bosal unless you want ear shattering noise. The Bosal has a nice deep sound and it not a whole lot louder than the Stock MP3 system. Also you can use the stock Racing Beat muffler with the Bosal system. You will lose the sound of the Bosal muffler but you will maintain the HP from the Bosal strait through design.

teegray3434 February-16th-2002 06:13 PM

how much does the bosal exhaust run for and where can i get it.

MP3-Owner February-16th-2002 07:04 PM

The bosal runs anywhere from $365 to about $425 depending on where you go. I got mine from Rishie at autornd@hotmail.com he was on the low end of that.
I am very pleased with my system.

Some folks misunderstand me. I want performance, and the OPTION TO BE LOUD (via removing the silencer). I like that nice, deep roar, and that loud, deep roar. A nice balance would be nice. To each their own. This is my preference, and I am entitled to it.:the finge

protetype March-13th-2002 02:14 AM

If you're looking for performance, but still want the exhaust to sound like it *should*, not too loud at idle, or lower rpms, but when you open your car up on the road or track... you and everyone around will definately notice it. The Bosal has a good growl to it, nothing like the fart-can exhausts. It sounds like it should, even with the resonator. I have the federal version as well on my 1.6l. I love how it sounds, and how it looks. Plus, it has the option of the silencer and other tip, since they bolt on to the muffler, which I think is cool if you want to change the look or sound. IMHO, nothing other than the Bosal. :D But like you said. it's your car. If you really want loud, just go custom. Just don't look for the same performance specs. :]

chdesign March-13th-2002 08:26 AM

If you want loud be decent sounding get an A'pexi N1 and get custom piping done at a good muffler shop with a mandrel bender. Get rid of your resonator and just do piping from the cat-back with the N1 muffler. The N1 shoudl cost you about 200 and piping shouldn't be more than 100 I got mine done for 45 though and its 2.5" piping...but remember i have turbo for NA i woudl say 2" or 2 1/4" piping. There is a thread here somewhere about that.

I accually think that I will be looking into the Bosal system!!

ARD MP5 March-14th-2002 05:00 AM

Hey linux, do you still have those pieces we were discussing for partial trade?

I've reconsidered and will work with you on it. I have a show coming up in April and now that I have the AUTOEXE stuff and should get the JIC before then, I'll have a winning car.

Please help support the cause. hehe.

Bosal, no problem just hook me up with your old motor shit.

Thanks, Rishie
