HP Needed?

How much HP do I really need? Can I get a 2002 P5 fast enough without dishing out all that money for a turbo kit? I am really just interested in acceleration...don't really care for top end speed that much, just enough to get up in street situations...I read that the stock P5 does 0-60 in about 9.5s. What would it take to get that to a reasonable number? Say 6s or so?

check out the for sale forum.... there's a good deal on intake and exhaust cams that would go a long way towards making your car faster if you dn't want a turbo.

I know that there are other things that will help the hp of my car...but I am wondering exactly how much these things will help or if they will just be minimal? Is the only real way to get some pick up by going w/ a turbo kit?

Oh yeah. A 6 second car NA is FAST! Think about it this way, the RSX-S is supposed to be able to do high 6's on a good day with a good driver & that's with 200hp at the crank. We've got 130 right now. Both way within 100lbs of each other, probably less. You do the math. It would, at the very least, involve super high compression, full bottom end, new valvetrain completely, programmable ECU, etc. If you're looking for that kind of power, it will be cheaper & easier going with forced induction.

cheap and easy fix? intake, exaust and a bottle of PURPLE HAZE (zex kit) right around $1000 and you get about an extra 80hp

port & polish the heads and everything else you can. get 11:1 pistons, cams, exhaust, intake, a ggod clutch and some slicks on 14x10" rims and you'll have no problem. i owould just wait for the turbo P5's to come out then wait for somebody to wreck one and go to the junk yard and rip all that **** off. from what i hear they are keeping the stock bottom end so you'll only run like 5 psi anyways. you wanna make it fast, get yourself a 4g63 motor in there and boost the hell out of it

Seriously,

If you want some relatively inexpensive power go with what vibrantvivid suggested. For day to day driving you have all the power you need, and for those times you want to kill some chump in a civic turn on the NOS. I have really thought about going with nitrous myself, I just do not want to void the warranty just yet. I think that I will wait a while.

BeanBandit thanks for the back up! i only got one problem with what you said though. **** NOS. the zex kit is much more safer due to the fact it is controlled by a computer. bang for the buck is the best if you want safe and reliable. i was at dyno wars last weekend and a dude with a civic had a venom kit on it. he only threw down 123hp with the nitrous! what a waste of $650 (venom kit price) i havent had any experiences with any other systems imo zex is the best even more so since they got a purge kit on the market!

well looks to me like you will need some VTEC stickers..

thats the only way the RSX does it, is because of Vtec, you need racing cam profiles to get massive power from a little engine, our PR5 engines don't rev very high so its harder for us to go fast

There's been no word on a from the factory trubo P5. However, there is a turbo Pro sedan on the way

Limited run though...and it's only pumpkin orange or black that you get to choose from

Can anyone point a newbie (me) to information on aftermarket turbo systems for the P5?
