Gettin robbed
I hit redline in every single gear, all the time. My shift light is more like a strobe light. How can I raise my rev limiter up a bit? HELP ME

HELP ME Why the hell would you want to take it that high? Ever heard of a power curve? If you look at the Pro's, you'll see the drop at 6200 RPM. (Your shift point for the best acceleration and quickest times.) Why in the hell do you want to go higher than that? If and when you do, please make a post including pics of when you broke a connecting rod or two. :( |

the powerband changes dramatically when you run nitrous, obviously. So it is easier to hit redline if your not quick on the shifter

I usually rev my engine up to 3000
I have a 1.6L and I am a city driver When I usually push it, 5000 is where I feel is the max power However, would it hurt if I push it to 4000rpms daily? I have grandmas telling me to "get out of the way b!tch" |
same...I almost have daily redlines...
if not redline for that day...then its been driven to at least 5500-6000RPMS so I don't think you'll have problems pushing it to 4000RPM And you also have an experienced person like 'The Man' saying he redlines daily....so its all good. I think its healthy for the engine to be pushed hard once in a while....it needs to get stressed and make its power....to run a nice and healthy life :D (thats IMO) :D |

normal drive I keep it in the 3k-4.5k range, I call it the "fun zone", the car have optimal torque there, from personnal obsevations.
I thought the cut-off was lower than 7050 RPM until last week, when I re-tested my car with my bros and saw, to my amazement, the thing go well beyond 6700 RPM ( which I thought was my redline). The car 'cut-off' is an ignition cut-off, it just won't let the power throught the spark plugs. I take my car pretty often in the redline, and occasionnaly in the cut-off, and she's doing great even tho I'm @ 45k km now and been doing the same beating on it since I got it .. but I run good synth oil so it's not so bad. I was coming back from Cornwall on some night @ 4 AM, and decided on the 417(Ontario highway) to take a test drive with it, so I stepped on the gaz and haven't let it down for 15 minutes .. limit is around 195-197 on a stock 3rd gen 2.0L protege, if you go higher or lower, blame the wind or road. |
you're crazy mashing it down 417!!! there's tons of cops there all the time!

Mine is in Ontario, Canada; It was about 4:20 AM when I got on the highway, @ the beginning I was doing 135-140 and getting passed by the few cars that were out @ this hour, so I told myself "why not", since I was alone in the car, and practically alone on the higheway. I was suprised at how well the car was doing at such speed. I wouldn't do it a second time tho, probably would have lost my license :( It really wouldn't go higher tho, kept it for at least 5 minutes @ 195-197. |
5000, usually. 3000-4000 if I am being nice and don't care about what time I get there. I still believe that if the engine is run to Redline the fuel economy will improve,...slightly.

when i'm driving normal i shift around 4k
when i drive fast i shift around 5900 i have 6k redline but my shift light is set to 5600 just to let me knw i'm getting close |
First of all where the christ is the 417??
I guess probably near Kingston Ottawa maybe. Next, I've bounced off my rev limiter several times, around 7400. I don't do it on purpose, well o.k. some times I do, but usually if I'm really pushing it I'll shift around 7200 or so. If I'm kinda pushing it, around redline 7000, if not then anywhere in between. I just really like to rev my car. |
