How high do you rev your engine?

please specify the engine, I have a 1.6l and have never gone past 5k. (usually in 4th gear)

alcoholiday November-15th-2002 02:51 PM

i'll normally shift between 3500 and 4000.

if i'm bagging the car, 5500 to 6000. the power drops off sharply after 5500 anyway.

VagaBond-X November-15th-2002 02:52 PM

I've raced it....done peel outs at redline, and i think once or twice i hit the rev limiter (7k), i've hit max speed, 5th gear which was around 5500RPM, can't rem too well, maybe closer to 6k)
In my friends probe, he went past 8k...by accident...cause he down shifted....I thought the engine was gonna blow (the tach only goes up to 8k) I think he musta hit 10k when he did it.
most of the time when i drive fast and race...I shift at, or just B4 redline...max power is under redline

engine is the 1.8L FP-DE...mentioned in sig

I like to keep my revs around 3000 to 4000 and normally shift around 5000 to 6000 if I want speed. Our cars have no low-end power, so if you want to move, rev it high! It won't hurt the engine.

gujustud November-15th-2002 08:48 PM

I usually rev it pretty high... redlined it few.. no several times a da... no wait... yeah I do it often... =)

pr5owner November-15th-2002 08:53 PM

2-3K RPM normal
3-4K RPM passing/"spirited" driving
4-5K RPM assholes that won't let me merge properly
4.5K-redline racing (rarely)

Sir Nuke November-16th-2002 12:12 AM

normal everyday running around town....3K to 4K...........getting out into traffic..... 5K and up to redline.....just depends on how FAST I need to get there.

PhotoPro5 November-16th-2002 12:15 AM

Eh, it depends.

Driving in traffic 2000-2500
Normal driving I'll shift anywhere from 2500-4000
Spirited driving, included full throttle on-ramp blasts 5000-5500

I have yet to come close to the redline.

I left a little rubber in my car for the first time, just the other day. It was a funny feeling the steering wheel wriggle around in my hands. My last car was RWD...to say the least.

JDMstuff November-16th-2002 04:41 AM

I generally shift at around 5k on the streets on my 2.0. No wonder I don't get my 30mpg.:D

NegatiZE November-16th-2002 10:05 PM

Normally, just below 4K. When I'm pissed off, enraged w/ anger, or in a hurry....REDLINE.

leungwingkei November-16th-2002 11:38 PM

Hehe, I'm kind of hard on the engine. I have hit the "engine shaking" zone many times.

Pssst, that's 7000rpm.

pingdum November-17th-2002 03:30 AM

I have a Manu-Matic and 2 times when I shifted from 1st to 2nd I hit it too late and I went beyond red. Man, that sounded evil, like death waiting to happen. I'm more carefull now. I only use manual when I'm making a fast u-turn or mainly on on ramps. The auto shifts from 1st to 2nd at about 2000 which is way to low for me in those situations.

redlining engine... perfectly ok as long as you keep up maintence!

I Thought the FS-DE was rated to go up to 7800 RPM without ripping itself apart, so why would 7000 be bad? I've hit the rev limiter lots. It sounds like ass, but sometimes you just have to clear out that damn carbon...
