The only known cure is to get a new car.

If it only grinds for a second (makes an "erk" going into gear) during full-throttle, fast shifts, try replacing the tranny oil with Redline MT90 and shifting a little slower. If it grinds during slow to medium-speed shifts, you need to get a new or rebuilt tranny. Is the car still under warranty?

I'd try and more insistant with your dealer. I've read a ton of posts with MP3 owners having problems with the tranny regardless of how many KMs or miles.

One of the MP3s in our club had to get his whole tranny replaced....

Good luck to you.

i'm gonna throw this out there, and get flamed again. it is not the tranny's fault. the mp3, and the rest of the 2.0l proteges (sedan and p5) have the same tranny. if it's a second gear grind only, and only does it when you shift from redline... stop shifting from redline. if it's a problem that happens all the time, when normal driving... head over to the dealership, and have them take a look at it. maybe it's just a synchro problem. but, if it's shifting fine when driving normal... it's not hard to find out the problem. ::cough::you::cough:: is it doing it all the time Justin?

Make sure you have the pedal all the way to the floor when you shift. If your shoe catches the dead pedal at all, you won't quite get the pedal down before you move the stick. Also, get the shifter bushings from Kartboy. It makes the process a lot smoother and more positive. I haven't ground a shift since I put the bushings in.

FWIW almost all of the MP3 tranny problems I've seen on this forum have involved a tranny that pops out of gear and/or jams in one gear. These problems are related to bent or broken shifter forks. JustinMP3 is describing a synchro problem, which is a completely different part of the tranny.
