HELP.....muffler install not working!!!!!!!!!!!

hi guys, i could use some help here, since i want m car functional for tonight. heres the deal:

after a long struggle to piece together the correct combination of pipes to get my new muffler to stick out the way i wanted, i have sort of succeded. i have attached everything, with some leaks, and now need to support the muffler.

the way it is now, the pipe is just resting on top of the rear axel, and ive been spending hours trying to find a way to hang it like the stock muffler hung. what has everybody done that installed an exhaust? please tell.......

you sound like you don't know what exactly is going on... do me a favor and bring it to a muffler shop and have it done before you break anything on your car... there's not a lot we can do to help you since it's obvious that you are not installing something that's "bolt on"

Ditto the last two posts; don't screw around with homebuilt clamp-and-screw muffler installation, go to a muffler shop and DO IT RIGHT. They'll probably only charge you $20-$30 to weld it up properly.

Homebuilt installations are totally ghetto; your muffler may fall off, your car may fail state inspection, and exhaust leaks can cause brain damage. :( The only time I would even consider screwing around with a rigged homebuilt system is in an emergency situation- such as being stuck in Baghdad right now.

Hey pentium006 do as everyone says take it to a shop. I also had a universal muffler installed and yeah one of my brackets fell after 5 days but since they replaced it I have had no problems and everybody says that it sounds really good. Good luck

yes get it done right, or you will be sparking on the road!!!:D

Well, to have your car ready soon, just do like the rest of the install and keep on using that Duct Tape... Unless you ran out that is...

pentium006 March-23rd-2003 12:36 PM

i took maxx's sugestion and just duct taped it on......actually, i called up a friend whose father it a welder. due to where i wanted it to hang, we couldnt use the stock brackets. it is supported very well though, we enlarged a hole in the chassis that was already there and hung the main support from there.

i may take it to a muffler shop over spring break, when i wont need my car, but its definatly drivable right now.....

thanks guys

*mental note, don't use universal far^H^H^H^H mufflers*

i admit, after all this, i wouldnt do it again, i would wait and save for the racing beat bolt on. i just wanted something on there until i could come up with the cash. i got a pretty good deal on this one and it sounds good though, so im happy.

Hey the TheMAN guess what I have a universal muffler and I promise you that I love my car having a clean look. The muffler sounds good as hell, well that is all my friends say and it also looks good :D

whats wrong with a universal muffler. i bought the muffler for 40 bucks, spent 10 bucks on piping and cut off my res and sec car and did all the welding myself...no leaks and its sounds like a mustang until i get to about 4k then the 4 bang sound takes over.

mygreenmazda March-23rd-2003 11:26 PM

I agree with you walight01 it funny how some people will go out there and spend 300 bucks on an exhaust + installation and get the same output as someone buying a muffler for under 150 with custom installation.
