Headers

Is anyone using a HP Racing header for a 2001 and up ES sedan or on a P5? I just want to know what happens with the cat, I'm looking at buying a set and need to know if the cat stays or if you have to move it or replace it.

eazilyamuzed September-18th-2002 03:12 PM

I was wondering the same thing?????????/ Anyone???????

zeus September-18th-2002 06:04 PM

Fed Ex tied to leave me a package today, but damn it, I wasn't home. The only thing I'm expecting is the HP header I ordered from Rishie. It is supposed to replace both stock cats and contain it's own hi-flow cat in the tail piece. It will also have a defeater for the second O2 sensor to trick the OBDII. I'm putting it on my P5 as so as I get it. I'll report back with pictures when that happens. Don't bother asking me to dyno the damn thing though.

PuertoricanDX September-18th-2002 06:25 PM

Hi
where can i buy one of those headers
I have a 2002 DX 2.0 engine
thanks

rosendo192000 September-18th-2002 10:35 PM

ok all i know about the hp headers(thats on my gsr) is the it connects to ur stock cat,but then again i belive they have the race headers aswell.

oh one more thing where else are the selling the hp header besides Rishie

tester September-19th-2002 12:58 PM

I was not even aware that they were available. If I remember right rishie was just taking pre-orders, but not time was specified.

ANyone know who actually has one??

dkfracing September-19th-2002 01:49 PM

I just ordered one from Total Performance in Toronto. Should be here next thursday, they said that first they have to ship them from their warehouse in the US.
:D

As soon as their here and on the car I'll let everyone know how they work. Just in case anyone else ;) wants a pair to try and see if it's what you want, just give David a call at 1-(888) 202-3335.
and tell him your from the Protege Club so you can get them for $310 plus tax and shipping.

zeus September-19th-2002 03:45 PM

NOPI is also selling them, but I believe they're only selling the shorty CARB legal ones. Rishie was taking preorders on the shorties and racing headers a while back. Last I checked with him, he said he expected the racing pipes anytime. Today Fed Ex brought me a stack of paper work from work. Damn it all!

Rishie claims to have worked out a priority advance order from HP and should be the first to have them. $375 for the ceramic coated racing pipes. I trust him, and will give him my business without a second thought, after he worked me the killer deal on the Volk LE37's and Proxes.

dkfracing September-19th-2002 05:51 PM

The HP headers I ordered are from NOPI, Total Prefromance is the Canadian dealer for NOPI, anything on NOPI.com they can get and there's no boarder crap to deal with plus I pay Canadian cash :D .

rosendo192000 September-19th-2002 06:53 PM

Which header did you order? SS or ceramic. Shorty or racing??

dkfracing September-20th-2002 01:31 PM

I ordered the chrome headers off the nopi site, when they get to David he tell me if they are racing or shorties (we think that their the shorties) but to me I DON'T CARE I just want headers that don't mess up the computer  and look good.:D

tester September-21st-2002 04:54 PM

I emailed Nopi and they emailed me back that they were not available yet, and no date when they would be.

ARD MP5 September-24th-2002 03:22 AM

If they were available I'd surely have one. I'm awaiting for HP to send me a demo so I can dyno it and give you the figures before you drop the cash.

I figured and have been asked that this is what guys want. HP knows to contact us to be able to research the product as well as it's integrity before we will add it to our lineup of JDM products for the most part.

I'm as well as the company's philosophy are "picky mo fo's". If I haven't gotten it, nobody better have it. They know to go through me to give them a thumbs up from our side to sell the product.

After this week, I'll know that HP is giving me us a run around. At that point I'll know how the company is and whether they've been bullshitting me. At this point I'm giving them the benefit of the doubt that they're upgrading the system to produce better results.

BTW, is that in CAnadian or US dollars dkfracing?

Thanks, Rishie

OZProtege September-24th-2002 07:53 AM

They are shorty headers

I e-mailed Nopi and got a reply that said the ones they sell retain the cat because the otherwise it would be illegal. I guess their primary market is street tuners rather than competative racers.

saided18 September-25th-2002 06:07 PM

I donno about any one else but i CALLED HP racing themselves to find out and they said they are NOT FOR SALE right. They said they will be ready next month. Same with OBX racing!

So that what they company told me themselves!

Patio September-25th-2002 06:27 PM

has anyone ever bothered with the MazdaSpeed Header?

ARD MP5 September-25th-2002 10:02 PM

The Mazdaspeed is real expensive and will eliminate all the cats.

well, is it safe to say HP Racing is giving us the run around yet? I actually started contacting HP back in APRIL! Every time I've called, I get "it'll be ready by the end of the month". So, every month I call, and it's the same story.

I figure we need a list of people that are ready (with the cash available) to purchase headers. HP Racing should see how many people are waiting and getting pissed.

Headers don't take this long to make!

Traveler October-3rd-2002 10:07 PM

I'm just one guy and it took me about 3 days to make my first one working a few hours each day. It took me 6 hours to make the last set and I got them back from the ceramic coaters in 7 days. I think I went from dyno tested prototype to ceramic coated header in a little over a month working in my spare time. If you haven't seen it yet, there's a couple posts on here about it or you can see it here:

Follow the link for 'ceramic coated header'

I wish that would work. Unfortunately money won't make a difference. They know that there are a million people waiting for this product with money. We alone would buy quite a few.

Next week sometime I will begin to become extremely frustrated and begin to figure out other options.

Traveler I admire the fact that you've produced a header, a feat that few others would take. That is extremely commendable. I wish HP was a small operation and only worked on the damn protege so they could turn around R & D as quickly as you have.

I figure they've got a bunch of things that they're having produced at the same time so everything must ship at the same time. I do believe that they're bullshitting me and the product can be ready.

I have yet to see the quality of this product so only time will tell. If it is near borderline I will not accept it and figure something else out once again. Maybe Traveler and I can put our resources together and begin to mass produce them to lower the pricing. ;)

Laters, Rishie

sandman October-3rd-2002 11:00 PM

Hey traveler - slightly off topic, but relevant to the headers issue..

How's that mileage working out for you?? That thread you made kinda died off there...

Are you still getting those amazing numbers?

And another question about the header.. Your original you had wrapped in heatwrap and your coated one you don't... is that because of the coating you don't need it, or you just decided not to put that stuff on?

zeus October-4th-2002 03:33 PM

Traveler, Seeing the work that went into that pipe for yours, I'm sure you could fab a full 4-2-1, 2 piece unit much easier. If Rishie wants to pool resources, I'd offer to lay out some design drawings in 3-D cad with 2-D prints suitable for out sourcing the mandrel bent sections. I may even put up some money. It's something to think about.

I'm also starting to think the FS isn't resonding well to a full header, at least not at the ECU. AWR first started working with MS to produce a marketable header, and then dropped it. HP and OBX have been talking shit for a while now, but produced nothing. There must be a reson, because the aftermarket world seldom leaves a market like this untapped for this long. Something else to think about.

Just to give hope, I have seen pics of Sport 20s in Japan with the mazda speed header. So, it can be done. It can't be that bad. I've seen plenty of other mazdas with headers and the stock ecu.

If you guys can put together a full lenght header, that'd be great. It seems that you guys have the resources and experience (traveler). I say go for it. I bet you guys could finish before OBX and HP.

Traveler October-4th-2002 11:55 PM

ARDMP5: I've got a source for the flanges, but I can get the price way down if I could start ordering several sets at a time. As for the pipes, nobody can make them. You have to have a minimum 6 inches of straight pipe between bends on a mandrel machine and mine don't even come close. That's why I built it out of 180 degree mandrel U-bends. The collectors you can find in several varieties all over the place.

Sandman: Yep, it's still getting really decent mileage. The lowest I've gotten is 32.5 with a LOT of city driving in the last few weeks. The best is still 36.

Zeus: I'm beginning to think that may be the way to go. I could fab one out of mandrel bent pipe and then have someone duplicate the pipes in one piece.

Sweet! Keep us posted as to how your mileage goes as the winter months come up. I still haven't decided when i'm gonna go turbo, but if it won't be for a while, I'll prolly go with your header!! Especially if you have a means of making them cheaper.. Us canucks get bent over on the exchange rate... :(
