it's not a plug and play instal. It's a typical splice each wire instal. The "harness" I'm refering to is the special designed piece to allow the Protege ecu to no shut out piggybacks. Nothing on this is P&P...but the S-AFCII would be re-useable. The protege pack would not need to be transfered.

will a mil elminator have any negative effect with the SAFCII? again thanks in advance, craig
|
nope what the MIL does is tell the ecu that the catalytic convertor is functioning properly. If it were to fail the ecu tries dumping more fuel into to warm it up faster. Iwould think if you had a header and no MIL and you added this mod you'd be able to pull a LOT of fuel out and make a good bit more power but it's always best to start with a car thats in good running condition before modding.

BTW, your thumbnail doesn't open. Seeing your sig, though reminds me--I guess the MP3 ECU will not really have a negative effect on this unit. Would it have any kind of positive effect? Or does this unit basically do what the MP3 ECU does, only better? |
all the mp3 unit does is bump the timing a little bit after VICS....so he may see less of a gain. Either way we'll have a before and after dyno on his car with no other mods to see what if anything can be had.
p.s. does anyone wanna know what I'm working on making now?? I'll give you a hint. No 'one else has made one before..... |
Time machine?

another question. will the safc2 and the "protege pack" come with install directions as in what wires to splice and there corresponding colors? also, will these directions be your directions, or the directions that come with the safc? again thanks in advance craig
|
wouldnt it be cool if we could just allow for a 99% throttle reading and not have the ECU loopback.
but i guess its impossble to do that? |
Omron, thats very similar to what we've done. Basically the engine will see an output signal from the TPS from 0-5V as the voltage climbs towards 5V (WOT) this pack will start to slowly retard the output signal so that at WOT on the pedal is only 4.7-4.8V on the TPS. Thereby keeping the ECU out of closed loop.
Hughes, man you are so right. I've got SO much going on but this is something I'm going to be outsourcing to another vendor to make for me. bbsf2, Oh yeah, instructions will be included. If you can wire up a car stereo you'll be able to do this. The protege pack is only 3 wires on to pof the S-AFCII. I have not gotten an S-AFCII yet to write up the install instructions but as soon as I get it I'll let you know how many wires it is and how long it takes. |
How much more cost/effort to make an interconnect?
Perfect World: To install i would remove the plug from the ECU and plug it into the 'new box' and a connector/pig tail from the 'box' to the ECU? Fire it up and 'stand on it'! :shift: It is a standard connector, Ja? |
the SAFC is a piggyback controller...
it simply alters the signal from AFM to ECU... i think?? pretty sho its da case so u gotta splice the wire and connect the SAFC inbetween ECU and AFM... |
the cost to build a plug and play harness for the Protege would be 10xs' more than anyone would want to pay for such a small gain. This is not like adding boost to the engine where it's worth a great cost. It's a way to fine tune your AFR's for a bump in power. Also, mazda uses Ford ecu connectors which are not available to the public unless you start hitting the junkyards and cutting off both male and female ends....very time consming and costly.
