differences between FP and FS

k i just wanna knwo what some differences are between the FP-DE engine and the FS-DE engine...

not like technical differences, i knwo all of those already, but mainly like visual differences

like wehn you look into the engine bay, what markings can you see that will tell you that it is an FS or FP, maybe there are some letters engraved somewhere on the engine block....

why do i wanna knwo this, well because in May of 2003, my engine blew... connecting rod broke, went through the engine block...etc etc....

well long story short, mazda replaced the enigne under warranty...so we got a new engine for free...

BUT.... you see i noticed a little more torque down low compared to before, and i dunno maybe a little more power, i dunt think so, maybe it was just because its a brand new engine and it felt stronger than the older engine when it was broken in....

but i also remember about 6 months ago, that i saw some engravings somewhere on the engine (cant remember i'll go and check where exactly when i get time) and the engraving said FS... so i was just wondering.... maybe the mazda dealership mighta put an FS-DE into my car instead of the FP-DE.... but i just wanted to know if anyone knows any visual differences...

I'll have to see if I can find a pic, but yes you can see FS or FP stamped on the side of the block. looking from front of the car it should be towards the fron on the driver side, directly on the block

k when i look down onto the engine.... and looking at it from the front of the car.... under cylinder #3, just under the head it says

"FS9"

does that mean i got the 2.0L engine...????

sounds like you got a 2.0L engine...only issue that I see is that your 1.8L used the F series tranny and the 2.0L uses the g series. Did you look at the work order?? did they drop a new tranny too, or possibly are there any extra transmission parts on the order so they can fit the new engine to your existing transmission??

wow, NICE DEALER!! I've never seen coolness like that since our ford dealer "looked the other way" on the supercharger I had on my 94 GT.

yeah i was worried about the transmission even before i made this thread...cuz i was wondering about it, and i knwo the F series tranny was already at its max with the FP, so i was always worried that if they did give me an FS, then what about the tranny

i will post up the details fromt he work order once i find it....

but this is awesome... i dunno if it was a mistake on their part or what....

but i am thinkign of a couple of other issues....

mainly ECU related... like one thing is does the ecu have the right timing and feul maps and etc etc, to run the engine properly (that is if they HAVEN"T switched out the ecu) i wonder if i still got the speed governor fromt he 1.8s, and i thinkt he rev limiter was different for the engines.... what was the FS's rev limiter set at???
